011001000110010101110010
try and get a garmin, they have way better software than tom tom and especially nav man.
F-Stop Junkie
A mate got a decent Navman unit (the 330 I think) from Argos for £90!

JT!
Tomtom seems the best these days.
munkee
Ive been lucky enough to use both and i have to say for pure easyness of use the tom tom is better. The nav man is good but it alot more techy than the tom tom. Meaning.. with a tom tom you touch the screen type in an address/postcode and it takes you there with the 3d image showing what you can see infront of you on the road (i.e. junctions turnings etc.. not cars/sheep in a field). The nav man is simpel to use but theres more options to play around with.. you could spend forever changing everything. Also a feature i really love on the tom tom. Set up where you live as your home address (pile of piss to do). You can then be anywhere in europe lost.. just tap the screen and tap the House icon and it will take you home. 2 screen presses (touch screeen booooyaaaa) to get you back to home sweet home.... f**kin great simplicity. Synergy
och dnt listen to these wasters i work in halfords with the sat nav, whats best depends what you want it for.im guessing you just want to go from a to b in uk so i would say tom tom one great britain get it for £199there is a navman f20 and thats about £149 its pretty decent. but i feel the tom tom is mroe striaght forward and easier to use.also in the store we have had a few garmins and navmans back as it cant find certain addressed but we havent had a tom tom back yet with that problem touch wood. nmt_oli
not to sure whats out there right now, but was workign on the audi section in halfords until the latest gen sat navs were realeased.TomTom's are chuffing ace, reliable and stupidly easy to use.Garmins are a close 2nd, tend to come with more features for the money but can be fiddly. NavMans arent usually too bad, but i just don't get along with them.Head into halfords or similar and have a play.
endofreak
I take it all the top brands have good mapping on the mainland. I know that over here, we have a lot of B roads and Garmins are the only units worth buying as they have the most detailed maps.
011001000110010101110010
Tell him to buy a garmin, do you halfords boys not know about the Garmin sales jackpot?!
Si-man
Dont put your address in because if someone nicks it, your f**ked, especially if they have the car aswell
Fish-Finger-er
Dont put your address in because if someone nicks it, your f**ked, especially if they have the car aswellyea, they could return it and the car to your house???? .joking apart, used various sat navs, navman icn320, navman icn 510i,tom tom 700, tom tom 5 on a laptop. but recently have been extremely impressed by the road angel sat nav, found it easy to use,(although dont tend to have much trouble with leccy gadgets, and as i was already accustomed to sat nav, probably isnt a fair test), just a nice unit generally, and having a road angel built into it is a big bonus. nmt_oli
Tell him to buy a garmin, do you halfords boys not know about the Garmin sales jackpot?!Halfords are being bastards and trying to puch sales of garmins over tom toms as they get more profits. Basically the tom tom suplier are pissing halfords around, and halfords dont like it.I personally think its completely not fair to the customer, and even though when i worked there i could get £7 for selling a garmin, and nothing for a tom tom, i would still recomend the TomTom because i believed it was a better unit. I do not lie to customers this makes me a good and bad sales man lol. the customer gets what they want and honest advice, which is what i believe they should get, not mindless drivel the company wants to sell them.same goes with bikes, i would never reccomend a cheap shit £80 appolo special, i would always urge the customer towards the next model up at £150. not because it is more expensive, but becuase honestly was a 10x better bike. Gandalf the Yellow
done a search and this seems most recent and relevant. sorry about the bump!so - seeing satnav are now more popular and most people have 1, which is the best to go for? mind you i know nothing about them!want something cheap (obviously) under £150 mark.- UK/EU mapping- Widescreen (not fussed)- Traffic news update (though how does it actually work??)- Probably garmin cos they seem to be best?Nuvi 250 seems good, anything else out there worth looking at?steve
TomN
Go for a tomtom. They take you to the place and show you the places more then navman and garmin put together. They are simple to use, and does what it says on the box. There's one that even shows you visual picture of the roads ahead.
Greetings
Tomtom seems the best these days. I wouldn't, unless it gets strong support around your areas. I've got one and although I try to keep it updated, it's got me into trouble EVERY time I used it. Once it decided to treat ferries as bridges and I spent the whole evening looking for a crossing that was a bridge, not some stupid ship which doesn't exist. On another occasion it quite literally got me lost and then lost itself. The TomTom is a handy tool when you know where you're going yet like to be bossed around during the journey. Fixed Pants™
My sisters garmin nuvi 205w at about 120 quid in halfords seems good enough. Apparently tomtoms are easier to use, but garmins give you more shit for your dollar. Edited January 17, 2009 by Fixed Pants™
