Just A Quick Car Question

My exhaust fell off today, just after the clampy bit. I gathered it was through rust and age although its not that old. Anyway, I just need to replace the last bit of the exhaust shown here:

If you have to replace the catalytic converter quite alot. Could be salvagable though, best bet is ring a garage and get a quote. Ring round and look for the best price.

depends what car??? and you doing it yourself or at the garage, and will you be able to get the exhaust at trade price.

taking it that its the bit in blue thats gone, not the red bit.

Sorry forgot to say, its a saxo (please dont moan get a better car etc etc) and its just cracked in the one place

at a guess, no more than £40, got a corsa back box last week from CES, at trade price, was £16, so call that £24 retail, cant see it being a lot more than that for the part itself. then its just fitting

however if its a crack, and there plenty of pipe (an inch plus) either side of the crack, get yourself a 4 pack of stella's, drink em all, cut the tops and bottoms off the cans, and cut straight down them, so you got rollable sheets. 2 jubilee clips, and roll the sheets of tin round the pipe, so the join sits on alternating side with each of the sheets, then clamp each end with the jubilee clip, its good for a thousand miles + like that, and costs no more than a fiver.

other options, scrappy, at a guess mild steel box will be £12-15, and a stainless box will be around £20 tops.

If it's that far back, I doubt you've dropped your cat, it's probably jsut the back box. Depending on condition of the pipe, they may be able to re-weld it for you. But eqaully, if it's going to do the same ina few months, might just be worth getting an entirely new pipe.

but £40 seems like the answer to me although I do like the stella idea.....

EDIT ok im a bit of a noob I got confused between the cat and back box. My car doesn't even have a cat lol.... just pretend the word "cat" on the daig says "back box"

The bit where you have put CAT, I wouldn't have thought a cat would be that far back, so you're more likely looking at the back box/muffler/whatever, which is a great deal cheaper.

this happened to my brothers clio rt around 3 weeks ago, it fel off so he got it rewelded on the joint, it fell off again.... and again..... so in the end he payed £200 for a new cat +labour i think.

Hmm Well its been done now all works fine. Cost me £75 for a new pipe, the cat + back box were fine

so this pipe better be sparkly

£75 just for a centre pipe?? sounds like a rip off, even if it is fitted, remember a couple of years back mother had her centre pipe on her xsara fail, local company fitted a new pipe and supplied it for £32.
