dirtbiker
Hi People,I've got an old Elswick racing bike that I use to get to and from lectures and recently the deralliuer got sucked into the back wheel and bent...I ordered a new Sora one from CRC but the fitment is very different (see pics)Basically the mech-hanger is part of the mech and bolts to the frame around the axle, its very odd.Any ideas how i can get a new mech on? I've only got one gear at the moment... Any help appreciated!
F-Stop Junkie
You need to go to a bike shop and find a very, very cheap mech which comes fitted to £70 Halfords Specials. It'll be about a tenner.
Krisboats
Yep he's right, you bought the wrong type of rear mech for it. You could try boding a piece of metal onto it though and make your own hanger, but you'll need to drill though the dropout and bolt it again as well to securely hold it in place. Tomm
I've got a (modified) mech like that on my trials bike. It just bolts onto the frame so you don't need to worry about hangers or anything. In you case, if you really wanted to use the Sora mech, you could probably wedge a normal mech hanger under the nuts for the back wheel, and screw the mech into that. But I have no idea if the indexing is the same on those old mechs, so even if it physically did fit, there's no guarantees it would shift. Krisboats
There an alright one about 5 minutes from the town centre, go from notts town centre (where the lion statues are) and head towards the arena... there'll be one on the right hand side as your going down the hill.
