Racing Bike Deralliuer Help

Hi People,

I've got an old Elswick racing bike that I use to get to and from lectures and recently the deralliuer got sucked into the back wheel and bent...

I ordered a new Sora one from CRC but the fitment is very different (see pics)

Basically the mech-hanger is part of the mech and bolts to the frame around the axle, its very odd.

Any ideas how i can get a new mech on? I've only got one gear at the moment... :-

Any help appreciated!

I've got a (modified) mech like that on my trials bike. It just bolts onto the frame so you don't need to worry about hangers or anything.

In you case, if you really wanted to use the Sora mech, you could probably wedge a normal mech hanger under the nuts for the back wheel, and screw the mech into that. But I have no idea if the indexing is the same on those old mechs, so even if it physically did fit, there's no guarantees it would shift.

You need to go to a bike shop and find a very, very cheap mech which comes fitted to £70 Halfords Specials. It'll be about a tenner.

you could....but you dont need to

some bikeshops sell steel mech hangers that bolt on like your original mech used to, but allow you to run a modern mech-if you struggle to find 1, gimme a pm and i can sell you one :) infact im heading to my supplier today, so ill get some spare anyway :P

Luckily my bike has thumb shifters on the downtube so no indexing :-

I'll send you a PM in a sec pauloliver, seeing as the bike shops near me are a bit crap...

Cheers guys
