rocktrials
cheap (crappyish) kit starts at like £200-250, and then a decent pearl export can be around £500, but i think your best bet is either ebay, or local addsI picked my early 80's Pearl export up for bout £150-200 and the bass pedal alone was almost worth £150, and still using same kit 4 years later. Ben Jones
Hey, you can get a basic, reliable drum kit for about £200-300, CB do a range for about £200 with +£50 for extra add-ons such a cymbols. This is in my local drum shop.I've just had a little search on google and i've already got some pretty nice kits here for a beginner. And for £300, only a little more, are absolute steals here and here. Both these kits are awesome, Maybe ungrade the cymbols after a few months of playing as generally they are pretty crap. Actully i've just noticed these dont come with cymbols. You can also buy a cymbol pack from my drum shop...i'm sure you'll find something on the internet for a few bob. If not a 16''-18'' crash is all you'll need. Maybe a Ride if your feeling rich .You won't be unhappy with any of them! Promise Cheers, Ben
Janson
I'd have a look around for second hand kits. Ideally something like a 4 piece kit, which gives you snare, bass and two toms (most often one suspended rack tom and one floor tom). it will most likely be cheaper than getting an extra rack tom, which in my opinion and many others, is unnecessary for a fair while. I've played with 2 toms lots, and i don't feel the need for 3 or more toms, but if dream theater and stuff like that is your thing, then more toms might be better.also, about cymbals, try to stay off the very very cheapest, they are rubbish. they will dent/bend and will sound shoddy.try to pick some decent entry level cymbals up, like a set (hihats, crash and ride) of sabian b8 or so, they do sound pretty well considering the price! remember that some ride cymbals will be OK as a second crash, something that i have been using my ride as, and many other drummers i know and know of.the most important thing to remember is that the sound of the drums can be affected greatly with a good set of drum heads and proper tuning. sure, it's not super dooper important if you're just starting out, but if you've played a bit, and especially other people's kits, you might want your sound better. i'd recommend remo pinstripe or evans g2 heads for the batter side of the toms, and something like clear evans g1 heads for the resonant sides. i'd also recommend a evans power centre head for the snare, it is VERY durable and sounds great, good for people who like to hit fairly hard, if you're into jazz or something softer, something like an evans genera dry may be better. but if you're just starting out, focus on playing and not buying shit, even though there's nothing better than a fresh set of heads on the drums remember, drums are bloody expensive, and it's like a trials bike, you know it makes sense trying to buy the most expensive stuff you can, as it will work better and sell for more should you fancy taking guitar up like rest of the world have fun!edit: i am no drum god, but add me to msn if you wanna and i'll may be able to answer some of your questions...
