Profile Cranks

Thanks. Which one is it?

these

or you can just get the arms and dispense with the titanium spindle.

or you can get some khe ones.

i know the profiles look good - and are made by profile etc. ( not sure why that's a good thing but people seem to like em )

before you run out and buy them, think about how often you smack your cranks on walls etc. and think about what will happen to a thin steel tube compared to what will happen to a solid block of aluminium when you do smack them.

Poopipe, denting Profile cranks is the least of my worries.

I've used Profile cranks and unicycle hub on my trials unicycle in the past, and so have many other street/trials uni-riders. The biggest problem with Profiles (race version, DJ, ss) is that they bend, the tubing is very dent-resistant though.

Unicyclists smack their cranks a hell of a lot more than biketrials riders, as there's alot of crank-stalling and grinding going on. No one seems to have ever dented Profiles, it's always bendages and snappages that happen very often and quite quickly. Profile's aren't known for strength really, quite a bit of the BMX community regards Profile cranks to be not-too-strong. Mountain unicyclists also bend and snap Profile cranks (all different crank models), and that's quite something

48-splined cranksets like Profile can sometimes be a lot of hassle, compared to ISIS and taper. It's an opinion shared by many riders, and hundreds of unicyclists all over the world.

Still, they're alright, if you can be bothered to spend that much money on them..

Tubular steel is inferior to solid aluminium, at least trials-wise. Trials unicycles have kinda proved it, seeing as all the newer sets coming out are ISIS, such as Tensile Unicycle cranks, Koxx-One cranks, and Kris Holm Moment cranks. All the old tubular steel cranks are being left behind in unicycling. I'm sure biketrials shouldn't start caffufling around with tubular cranks too far.. :turned:

the tubing is thinner on the flatland ones but fair enough. If you've not dented them then I've guessed wrong

i still say they're a bad idea (because they're tubular cromo not cos they're profile) for all the other reasons you mentioned though

whichever way they go they're dead.

simple equation...

racing component + street riding = new racing component

then again - this is trials we're talking about here. People go through rims like bog paper and don't seem to bat an eyelid - it's a bike company's dream
