arw_86
hi, first off sorry if someone has already asked about this but i did a search and it just kept coming up with an error....so anywho, basically ive just got myself a leeson 609 24" (thanks to bob87 for that-LEGEND!) and it is in the perfect condition, brakes are spot, on nothing creaks, nothing is loose, its near impossible to make it make a nasty sound on drop offs, its just perfect in everyway etc etc...but im still finding it difficult to get the confidence to do stuff. like tonight for example i was trying a relatively small sidehop which im more than capable of doing but it took me like 20 attempts before i got the bottle to keep my foot on the pedal rather than putting it on the wall (hope you understand) when i put my foot down i was like at least 6 inches above the wall height so i wouldnt of messed up at all, but my bloody foot just jumps off the pedals and onto the wall ( i sidehop to the left so its my left foot - thats why my cranks dont spin round when i do it and hit my shin)its just really really really frustrating when i know i can do all these moves but something inside me just seems to stop me going for it!....even on big gaps i know that if i go half hearted at it i know ill prob end up worse off, but i cant bring myself to chuck myself forward. im always thinking the worse 1) chain will snap2) tyre will slip3) hub will skip4) ill come up short and tw*t my ankles or ass on sidehops5) go over the bars and make my face uglieri know it sounds silly to most you guys but what do you do to convince yourself your not gonna f*ck up? is there any techniques?dont get me wrong i do some stuff im proud of but most of my rides im thinking the worse and not goin whole hearted at stuff, hense not enjoying it as i get pissed off and not improving as much as i would like.sensible responses please as i know most will think im just bein a p*ssy but least im honest.regards ARWp.s - sorry if its confusing at all, drop me some questions if i lost you
Token
after having a pint I done my biggest gap, perhaps because my reactions were a little slower I didnt have the agility to put my foot down, also I was probally a little bit more 'floppy' which I think makes for smoother riding.so booze away
GlynnP
Hey i used to have the same problems with sidehops. Probably cant offer much good advise i am afraid. Apart from just keep at it keep practicing and just try your hardest and to chuck yourself up the wall and don't worry about hurting yourself. I know this sounds easier than it is but its what helped me i just kept chucking myself up and falling off and get hurt , but you have to just get straight back on and try again. Sorry this isn't much help but might help knowing your not the only 1.
kid creole
yeah i feel like that also, its really annoying when you want to do something but cant bring yourself to try properly , even thou you know you can do it if you give it 100% effort .i think the problem is that you have read about, heard and seen to many bad things happen so that its in the back of your mind that's whats happened to me , because when i started out i never even considered that my chain could snap or that my hub might skip but now I'm always thinking that. i guess you've just got to go for it and what ever happens, happens. GTF
If your bike is new, you dont give 100% before you have used it a while.I got myself a new frame and after 2 weeks I started to give 100% when riding

Endohopper
Also when riding , you're switched on and attuned to physical / instinctive motion , you'll be surprised how rapidly you automatically save yourself from injury . The body pretty much overrides logical thought and finds a safe way to avoid / absorb a stack in a fraction of a second . Yeah , I suck at explaining concepts . As long as you're not too tired and are well hydrated , your brain will perform rapid calculations and act upon them causing you to jump clear , stick out your hands etc . Basically , ride full on and trust your reflexes and your body to save itself . Use the force ... I hope I don't even have to mention the confidence boost that a good helmet gives , right ? ogre
when i start riding i'm shit scared of doing anything and have to build up slowly every weekend >.< although when i rode everyday in the summer i just went for everything everyday now i'm riding every other weeknd it's all going down the shitter haha. chain snaps used to scare me alot to (month into trials and i'd mullered my crotch on my stem and couldn't enjoy myself for a month)so i replace my chain every 2 months so all is good there i find i'm not bothered about skips when i've just cleaned my freewheel so i usually clean my eno the night before a ride even if i cleaned it a fortnite ago. hope some of that helps
bob87
Having sold the Leeson 609 to you i also am having this problem riding the Pitbull i built up.I'm slightly hesitant to try stuff i could do before just because i don't how the bike performs yet.Learning how the bike reacts to your body will take a little time but building your self up to bigger things is the best way to learn.Try doing stuff smaller than your used to doing, i know it might be easier but it'll build your confidence in the bike and in your self and gradually you'll start doing bigger things.Having trust in your bike and the parts you run is also a major thing, all the parts i made the bike up of are top quality and there wont be any sort of breaking happening any time soon.Wear a helmet, go riding as often as you can and have fun doing it, you'll soon get used to the bike.Bob
Ali C
istead of thinging about the bad things, think about the good things. If you think your going to crash and hurtyourself then its more likley to happen. When I am riding, I am 100% sure I am going to get up somthing, even if its going to take a few goes, the positive attitude really helps.TRA once wrote an artical about the power of the mind, you will be suprised what it can do!
