_Owen.
at the moment i run a fixed front cog (22 tooth). and was considering upgrading to front free wheel at xmas. i was thinking about it and would, say an 18tooth front free wheel make me hop further (static forward hop)??? has any one done a similar upgrade and what are your views on this. cheers owen
Ash-Kennard
if you want more power all you have to change is the rear cog to a smaller size, e.g. 1 tooth smaller, from 14 to 13. will give you wayyyy more power than just changing the front size. do you know what gear ratio is? onzadude123
GET RID OF THAT 22T !! the general gearing for most average riders is 12 on the rear, 18 front, works for me, CLS and most other people Have a look in the f/s section there's some bargains on ENO freewheels, if you can bag yourself one of those you'll be sorted, if not the Tensile's are the next best thing as the 108.2 Monty ones explode with too may engagements and the try-all one's skip (i think ).Hope that helps a bit Joel
basher
it sounds like you havn't looked into this much but i may be wrong. first of all you will have to get the freewheel on the back taken off and a fixed cog fitted usually a 12 tooth, and you may need new cranks which you most likely will as most bike that come with 22tooth cog on the front arnt freewheel cranks. so it can cost alot. sorry if you already no this am just making sure you no everything. and yea the gearing is high so you can get more power in to your kicking making you gap further in general. Ben Swann
at the moment i run a fixed front cog (22 tooth). and was considering upgrading to front free wheel at xmas. i was thinking about it and would, say an 18tooth front free wheel make me hop further (static forward hop)??? has any one done a similar upgrade and what are your views on this. cheers owen The common things to ride on the back of a 22 tooth chain ring is an 18 tooth freewheel or freehub with 17, 18 or 19 tooth sprocket or cassette. The norm for 18 tooth front is a 13, 14 or 15 rear sprocket on a freehub. With 22 front 17, 18, 19 back there is chain wrapped around more cogs than with an 18front 13,14,15back sprocket so it is much less likely to skip and spreads gear wear alot. If you want a harder gear, beacause the bike's gear feels too light to pedal to hop far, all it needs is to reduce your rear sprocket by one or two teeth. Or:Your cog might be too small on the back and stopping you pedalling as much gear because it feels to heavy. This would mean you need to add one or two teeth on the back sprocket. You maight need to change your chain length too. Ben
poopipe
etc...he rides mod by the look of his little profile thingy so that's all fairly useless to him - sound advice though it ismod wants 18-12 gearingif you have a 22 tooth cog on the front i assume you're riding a bike like a da bomb or a t-vee and probably have a 16 or 18 tooth freewheel on the back - this means your gearing will be lower than most people who have a front freewheel setup. the cheapest way to sort it out will be to get a bigger front cog - blasphemous as it sounds - 24-16 will give you the same ratio as 18-12 and you'll have no excuse for not being able to gap very far

Fish-Finger-er
ye i quite like it too but i wanted to get some better cranks, and i couldnt find any that arent front free wheel ones. can run front freewheel cranks without front freewheels, just use a screw on cog, same as i do on me echo's. and wouldnt say a 22-18's any good for speed really, 'specially not on a mod. stock its about right,
Joe Sweeney
Yeah, getting a front free wheel is smartbut yeah you will need new cranks Free Wheels i would suggest the acs claw or a tensileyou would need a 18t front free wheel and a 12t sprocket for the backThis gives you lots of ingagement points and is a good gearing for trialsSorry for any spelling mistakes

The Duck
Yeah, getting a front free wheel is smart but yeah you will need new cranks Free Wheels i would suggest the acs claw or a tensile you would need a 18t front free wheel and a 12t sprocket for the back This gives you lots of ingagement points and is a good gearing for trials Sorry for any spelling mistakes I beg to differ... The 18-12 gearing doesn't somehow magically give you good engagement, its the freewheel/freehub that decides your engagement. 'Sorry for any spelling mistakes'?? Theres no excuse! And i'd be more worried about your punctuation than your spelling mistakes. And personally I don't see the point in mimicking what aboot 3 other people have stated further up this thread. (P.S. I thought you might need the definition) Edit: Sorry to take it out on you... but it really gets on my tits/breasts/man boobs.
