roby James124
Hi I have a Giant Team Trial Bike and i just can't bunnyhop it high I don't know why though because I have a Mongoose Thunderball jump bike which I can bunnyhop a couple of feet I can also do the same on my friends Onza T-vee. The problem is that I pull the front wheel up on the giant then try get the back up and the front dips back down and this happens on something as high as a kerb. I was just wondering weather any of you knew what I was doing wrong or what mite be wrong with the bike. So I wrote a list of the components that I thought mite be relevant.Hope Stem 90mm 10 degree riseAzonic double walled 2.5 inch rise165 middleburn cranksOnza tuf guy forks (Uncut steering tube) The other problem I was thinking even though I do not know the geometry of the giant compared to the other bikes. I though that maybe the wheelbase was longer. If getting some pictures or video footage of me doing this then I can, if i mite help someone tell me what's wrong. Thanks Rob
maxxis26
your mongosse has different geometry to your trials the trials will have a lower fork so it will take more to get it uptry fitting a different stem with more rise it will make it easierif you can ratchet, when you pull up give a kick on the pedals to boost you up.. Ash-Kennard
us the muscles, maybe add a stacker or two under the stem?
poopipe
raising your stem/bars will help for sure. it could be that you're snapping into it too quick - i've not ridden one of those frames so I don't know how they feel but ...on my mod the higher hops come from a really sharp movement straight into the hop. On my bmx (bars are a lot lower than the mod and the front end is a lot heavier) the bigger hops come from a more relaxed movement, almost like a short manual into the hop. It might be worth trying it like my bmx method to see if that helps

To bunnyhop high its all in the arc shape you make with the bars, you need to sweep them forwards and up, like you were pulling into a manual. Then you need to pull your self towards them and suck up the back wheel with your legs... at this point your almost making a conscious effort to physically jump up your obstacle. As the back wheel comes up your front end will naturally want to drop, which is i think at this point where you are getting stuck. You need to push the bars up in front of youand end up with your arms straight and elbows at about eye level. Its this motion that ensures the front end stays up, all you have to do afterwards is push your legs forwards slightly and soak up the impact with your knees.Check my thatshed video's for clips on bunnyhopping. Also stairs are good fro practising too, you'll want to keep the front end up to avoid rimming out on the front wheel and getting a flat and if you find a good 10 set you can keep pushing your height. Being able to cleanly make about 5 steps will equate roughly to being able to bunnyhop about bar height.
