Magura Vs Cold

Well, As most of us who runs maggies, when it'.s winter time, my magura goes all weird, lever get too close to the bar as soon as I go outside which is crap as my rear brake got no power when I go outside ! (N)

this happened because of that !, sorry sound doesn't even follow, don't know what happened during the upload process but can,t be arsed to reupload it again !

So, my question, is there any way to solve this ? to stop the oil getting into a state that makes the lever closer to the bar, don't know the name :P

First of all, what pads are you using, what rim, ground or using tar?

If the leavers pulling right down to the bars then simply ajust the TPA (red knob) on your leaver, it'll alter the bite point.

oh should have mentionned that too, tpa is all the way in.., my crapgura seems to lose oil, but I don't see where ? damn I hate that stupid sytem !

grind, no tar, I'll die with tar here, on CRM, normally the brake is super strong, what you saw in the vid would have never happened on a good day ! and my rim is a DX-32 :ermm:

well, that was my main idea.., but I bled it like 1month ago, it's always as soon as it's cold outside that it goes all weird, right now in my house, it's perfect !

I have a vee on the front, and it's always the same, nothing change, I'm seriously considering switching to a rear vee :o

doe sound like you have some air in the system, alternatively have you checked the seal/piston in the lever body to see if any oil is leaking through?,

I had a similar problem a few months back and the seal had gone, the brake gradually got worse throughout riding untill i had no brake power at all.

I solved this by giving the lever a full overhaul new seal and springs etc, but bled it with a water/anti-freeze mix. brake is now strong and reacts far quicker due to the water bleed and it doesn't freeze when it gets to cold.

Ive ridden in -8, as long as you dont bleed the maguras with water it should be fine.

Only thing ive noticed are that my brakes does not work as well as on a warm day of 2 reasons:

1.your fingers are cold and loose alot of strenght.

2.Compound of pads gets harder .

But beware your rims are "iceless" ofcourse.

Also a hint .. you cant really SEE the ice ;)

If your brakes still dont work, you should reconsider your "bleeding techniques".

I know what you mean. I have ridden my bike when it was -20C outside. The oil goes thicker and the lever pulls closer to the bars because of the cold weather. All you can do about it is bleeding your brakes again and make sure that your tpa is winded out all the way before bleeding, so that you can wind it back in when riding outside. And alo try to set your pads as close to the rim possible. And another thing you could try is getting a lower viscosity oil for your rear brake, so that it won't become so thick in the cold.

When u rebleed did u undo your tpa all the way out?

Also, is the actual brake set close to the rim, if not, they need resetting up coser.

If non of the above applys, then you need to rebleed.

When i bleed I always undo the TPA, pads are as close as they can be, that was the first thing I did when I started riding in the cold, but that havn't solved the problem !

I'm gonna try to bleed it again, see how it goes :)

I do find my brake pulls further when its cold, even with a perfect bleed. If you bleed your brake in the cold, you shoudlnt have this problem- but you may find your pads hit the rim and bind when warm!

oh, never thought of that, shame I've already bled it now, anyway, it's the way it should be when you first get it ! so it's "ok" anyway, new rim coming,wider rim too, so should make it easier to push the pads closer to the rim ! ;) will see what happens :P
