My Wheel Won't Stop Moving

I've had to replace a broken spring in my hope xc hub and since I've put it back together my wheel keeps rubbing on the brake when I pedal. I've trued the wheel, put it dead straight in the drop out, checked to see if my axle in the hub has snapped, but the wheel will still rub on the brake, but it is only when I pedal. Has anyone got any clue to what is wrong with it?

Are the spokes tight?

The wheel could be 'flexing' over as you pedal. Especially if it's the drive-side pad that rubs...

I know you said you trued it, but are all the spokes actually tight?

The spokes are evenly tight around the wheel, I'm haven't got a clue what it is, but it does when i just stand on the pedals. Could it be something to do with my hub?

Have you checked your frame for snappage. Chain or seat stays snappage would give rear flex.

Hope it,s not but best have a look buddy

Ha ha, so many different replies. ^_^

Right, he said he's checked the spokes and their all tight and the wheel is trued... so no more posts saying tighten your spokes.

Have you checked the rear axle, it may be partially snapped. With a skewer in it would hold but it might move when force is exerted on it. Take the wheel out and get that axle out to have a look at it.

While the axle is out have a look at the bearings, as people have said it could be them that have died.

Check the frame thoroughly for cracks, mainly around the bottom bracket and chainstay/seatstay joins.

all wheels have a certain amout of flex som more than others so mods wont flex as much as stock because they are smarller (N)

I think what dan means is your wheels aren't supposed to flex when pedalling like that, and that hardly anyones does... if they do, they get it fixed.

And surely you are aware that your advice of "move your brake pads away from the wheel and put some tpa on" is completely contradictory in the fact that the TPA moves the pads closer to the rim, effectively making the need to move them away in the first place completely uneccessary.

Pads should be 1-3mm away from the rim depending on how you like them set up, magura advise 2mm but personally i like 3. THEN you use the TPA to adjust the feel of your lever and for taking pad wear into consideration.

No, what Dan means is that his wheel doesn't flex about when I pull the brake..

Not that i've noticed anyway...

Wasn't very clear in the other post..

1. Check the frame very carefully for cracks

2. Check spokes are corretly tensioned (should be able to move them about 1cm when squeezed on a 26)

3. Pick you backwheel up and wobble it from side to side to see if youve got any bearing wear.

4. Check hub and rim for cracks

5.Check your qr is tight, may sound silly but could help alot

6. Might just be general wheel flex

I think I've sorted it out now because what I done was undo the whole wheel so the spokes loose then redone it all back up and tensioned it a bit more on the drive side than the non-drive side. I checked to see if the axle or frame was cracked but they were fine. Cheers for all your help (Y)
