lawrence osborn
hey guys,As i'm going back to a maggy after having a disk set which i didn't like, i was wondering would a maggy be alright on this rim and also what pads would work well on it with just a bit of tar? (ive got the black one if it makes a difference)cheers lawrence Edited November 20, 2006 by lawrence osborn
Broomer
why wouldnt it be ok? i run a rear 26inch one of these and its fine with a maggy although i have a grind and heatsink blues and its still to slip on me. but with out a grind im not sure which pads would be best to use. RobinJI
Yeah, will work fine with a maggie, give it a try with black pads, there quite good on the front as they still allow some feeling to the break. I wouldn't really recommend that rim though, there pretty weak, have a look at some other options first. Personally I don't know many font 20" rims, but I've trued a mates try-all one and it feels really flimsy, and I know people who have buckled the 26" versions in a days normal riding. GTF
They are strong. Ive been riding try all rims for 5 months now, and they still stand strong. And the magura is good on the front on those rims
Broomer
i always thought they were strong but it would make sense that they are weak because there only single walledyeah doesnt help they have 20mm holes drilled out of them either. i wont be buying another one thats for sure, there crap
RobinJI
Oh right, yeah, if you've already got it on there then go for it, just whack the maggie on with the black pads, there not too bad at all for the front as long as you ride quite smooth. Also I used to run Monty's on the front of my old koxx on a clean rim and they were really good, still had a lot of feel.

poopipe
yeah but there weak anyway let alone with 20mm holes in them, but the 2006 echo rim is half decent i think. They're the same as a hog front rim aren't they. I've been running one since july last year and it's not knackered in the slightest so they can't be completely shite
Dan6061
I've got an '06 Echo on the front.Seems strong enough? Can't see how you need an uber strong rim on the front though...I'm using front disc though, so I don't know what they're like for braking surface.. RobinJI
There very similar to the hog, but i dont think there the same. You don't need a really strong rim on the front, but you need a stong enough one, and preferably still pretty light. I used to have an Alex rim of the front when I rode mod, cant remember which one, but it was singlewall and silver, and looked kinda like a DM24 but a mm or 2 narrower, was really good, I drilled it out with 21mm holes I think and it still held up to alot, just because it was made of a much better alloy than the try-alls, and it was still just as light after drilling it.
