eskimo
I know there have been more than enough topics on this. I have read them.I understand that ALL i need is1 Helicoil Kit (to purchase online)1 5.2mm drill bit (which i already own no doubt)What im looking for is a link to a kit which has everything i need. I am currently poor so i can't afford to end up buying something that i can't use. Thanks
Tony Harrison
What's the drill bit for? Helicoils screw into existing threads don't they?
ben_travis
if he has stripped his threads, he has to drill out the old ones, create new ones at a larger size, then stick a helicoil in to make the threads m4 (same as existing)if he is just wanting the steel helicoil in there he will have to do the same, or else he will have a smaller hole than before!unnerstand mr snappel? eskimo
Now you've really confused me.So do i drill out to 5.2mm and then insert a new helicoil?Or do i re thread to M6 then put a helicoil in?Or do i drill to 5.2mm then re thread and then also put a helicoil in?Thanks in advance. Tony Harrison
You drill to 5.2 - that's your 'tapping' size. Then you run an M6 tap through there to thread it and insert the helicoil, leaving you with a super-strong M5 thread.(Ben, ignore my comment before, I was being thick!!) dave85
A helicoil kit. The one ive got has the 5.2 mil drill, has the special tap, has the tool and has a pile of inserts. That, a tap wrench and a drill is all you need.
Dan6061
I just rang up a local engineer, and asked how much it'll be for him to do it.He charged £20 for all the threads, and even made me some stainless steel booster spacers, as mine got all crushed. So yeah, just ask about? At least then you know they know what they're doing...and saves you screwing it up.
eskimo
Thanks for the input guys.I have rang around locally and haven't found anything. Apart from a bike shop who done it for me and that is an hour bus journey away. They also took ages to do it. Then a mate said to me that it was real poor job, being some sort of engineer he said he would do it. But it's been a right pain to sort it out with him. Plus i need 5 threads doing. So DAVE85 where did you get your kit from? Can i get a link. Thanks
