Basic How-to

I've noticed that quite often on trials-forum we get questions about how to get certain things, pictures, custom member titles etc..

And there isn't really anywhere where you can look to get help from. Sooo being the kind person i am , i thought why not make up a basic tutorial.

One slight problem, i was never a pre-member so i don't know what you have and don't have. So apologies if you don't have something that i'm explaining.

If it doesn't work/isn't popular, we can just let it roll off the page.

Also feel free to add anything i've missed out or change anything thats wrong.

A) Posting

As a new member you can only post in NMC. Which should be pretty obvious as it's written on the forum description.

1. New Topic

Click on this to start a new topic, it can be found at the top of each forum. Every topic must have a topic title and can include a topic description. Remember to make the title descriptive. If it isn't you'll only be complained at by certain members. To complete a thread click on the 'post new topic' button on the bottom.

2. Add reply

This is found in the topic itself, is found where the new topic button is normally found. Exactly the same procedure less titles.

3. Edit Post

This is found at the bottom of your post, it gives you the chance to go back and change what you have written. Handy if you forget something. There are two types. 'Full' and 'quick,' use full to add smileys and other things, and use quick to just add/correct some of the text, and if your here long enough like some, you can use the code for the smileys.

4. Quotes and replys

If you want to quote on a post, click the quote button at the bottom of the post that you want to quote. Then click on add reply, it will have the code at the top. Simply add what you want at the bottom and add reply. It will then come up with the quote added to your post.

There is also a reply button at the bottom of each post. Clicking this takes you straight into the post format.

Using the quote button, you can add multiple quotes and take a quote from one thread to another.

My Controls

1. Profile Information

Most stuff in here is pretty self explanitory.

When you post more than 100 times, you will have unlocked the option to change the custom member title. This is the line found underneath your avatar.

2. Signatures

Pretty much everything you need to know about signatures. Just scroll down a bit.

3. Avatars

This is the picture that you see underneath peoples names. The rules for avatars are written at the top and you have a choice of using set avatars or uploading your own picture. Remember though it needs to be the same dimensions/size as those stated already. If you upload and it is in the correct size etc try hitting ctrl+F5.

4. Personal photo

This is the photo that appears in the profile that is found when you click on your member name. Again there are set peramiters that the picture needs to be between.

5. Manage Attachments

Recently members( not sure if this includes pre-members, sorry) have been given an amount of space to upload files from computers. This is currently set at 10mb. Should you fill this, use the manage attachments to delete some of the older ones that are no longer needed to free up space.

C) View new posts

This shows the posts that have been recently made. It can be useful for when your purely on here because your bored and have read every topic possible. Saves you going through each forum to find out if there's any new posts. There's also a version in the assistant but we'll get on to that in a sec.

D) My Assistant

1. Information

Gives a link that takes you to a page showing all the administraors and moderators. Note these are not the ones currently online.

It also shows you todays top ten posters, overall top ten, and your last ten posts. Can be helpful for when your really so bored you'd consider going onto OTN. Also has your last ten posts, so you can check whether your keeping up to standards.

2. New post

Similar to C) up above

3. Search

Another way of searching, very helpful when your new.

Also a great way of keeping those more grouchy members at bay that are looking for some nice new members to abuse.

4. Recent Pm's

A priviledge you will recieve when upgraded to full member. Basically an internal e-mail system for t-f. This just shows your last 5 pm's.

E) Personal Message control panel

As mentioned up there^. This is where you can check your pm's or send one to other people. It's pretty easy really and something to look forward to for when you get validated.

So there you go, a basic how-to for t-f. Well done if you read all that, you have successfully wasted ten minutes of your life.

Lil correction: You can change your custom member title when you reach 100 posts, i'm 95% this is right.
