whats so :o:D about fisheye lenses anyway?

just general coolness an proffessional look they can give to certain photos, makes them worthwhile.

checked on ebay dave, theres various options at various costs for your camera, from full blown lenses, down to the screw on adapters, which the 0.22x variants with the zoom right back, will produce a fisheye picture for about £50. just depends how often you think your gunna use it as to whether it warrants spending a couple of hundred on a proper lens, or settle for the inferior image quality and £150 + to spend on your gf.

That'll be £200 on a lens then...

Not sure how well the screw on lens adapters work. If I put my £50 screw-on fish-eye that I bought for my Fuji S5000 on a Nikon lens, it doesn't make a lot of difference. By the time you've zoomed in enough to remove the black bits in the corners, it's the same as opening the lens right up to 18mm on its own. Best bet would be to try one in a shop before buying... it's a bit different to just screwing one onto a compact 'SLR'.

No no, they're good, if they work with your camera. My one was excellent with the Fuji, but on the Nikon it doesn't make a noticeable difference because the 18-55mm lens I have goes pretty wide already. Different screw-on fish-eye lens will have different focal-lengths though, so it might be an idea to try one first or buy one that you can return. I'm only speaking from my experience - other people may have managed to get them to work well.

Rob P is probably the man to ask...

I've been pleased with my Sigma 15mm Fisheye. On a digital crop body it's not fully mental (on my film body it is...), but it depends how you use it. If you get near to stuff it distorts it, but you can be further away and just use it as a wideangle. There are times when if I'd had the Peleng I'd have either not been able to get the shot, or it would've been a hell of a lot harder to get. Plus it's more "tech" than the Peleng by far. You can pick them up pretty cheap on eBay too - just search for the Sigma EX-DG 15mm Fisheye (think that's right). They're good!

I just got a peleng 8mm, and it's great this far :) Cheap too.

Have a look here: http://www.pauck.de/marco/photo/stuff/pele...ng_fisheye.html

Since you have Nikon I think you will need this Nikon adapter:

Yet another vote for the Peleng. (Y)

Best fisheye you can get for the money (<£130). There's lots of examples of shots with it on my site.

Yeah the Sigma and Pelang both look very nice!!

I'd like the Pelang I think, from Mikes shots it looks a beast but I dunno.

I think if I got a fisheye it would have to be the nikon 10.5mm without a doubt. Borrowed one once and it was so so sweet, 2.8 as well.

But they arn't cheap either.

Why not just get the Pelang since it's cheap as a chinese handjob and works well.

decisions decisions

O and Dave, Pleaseeee just post your questions in the random photo thread or a previous topic, makes much more sence.

The Sigma's F2.8 as well :P

Having used Mike's today, I'm glad I got the Sigma. The Peleng's a bit too...um..."rugged" for my liking. It's probably a nice lens if you get used to it, but it took so much longer setting up shots, and above F8 the clarity suffers. It's just the fact it's all manual, just makes it a headache, not to mention the fact that it's a bit of a one-trick-pony, so to speak. It just doesn't really seem as versatile as the Sigma, although it is cool.
