Heatsink
Maybe the SM thing has been perceived as less meaningful because it's not seen to be alive with deserving TF members being given the tag recently. There are a few riders that I think would be shoe-ins for becoming SMs, only if the current SMs were as active in this direction as we've been before. It's a group vote thing in the SM section of TF, and it's just the way it is that the on average many SM riders are older so real life gets in the way of TF. It doesn't matter who you know, or how long you've been on the forum good contributers (according to a group concensus) have a great chance to become SMs. If it's a motivational thing to reward being a good TF member then that can only be a good thing?I'm off to nominate some new SMs now Steve

Greetings
I think that SM's add a bit of "taste" to the forum. Who cares if their name is in pink or if they have access to an SM forum, they're still people like us (within reason of course). In my opinion there should be no new seniors. You don't add new stuff to a museum.

1a2bcio8
Rowly.... Why did you ask to be made into a normal member again? Also how many people have been offered SM'ship and rejected it.Because at the time I became a senior member there was a large thread entitled, "members that are really annoying" or something like that - it just seemed like a place to complain and put down all the "normal" members, some of whom were my friends. Fair enough if people want to put down others. Objectively nothing right or wrong in it but it just wasn't for me because I don't really like systematic put downs. I've given up or moved away from friends in my more immediate environment for the same reasons. It was a shame in a way because I found the SMs to be enjoyable individuals and I'm guessing a lot of them only, or mostly, post in their private forum, so in a sense I'm missing out. As are the rest of you, if in fact I'm actually correct about that? Edited November 16, 2006 by rowly

Sameer
<multiple posts> Damn, Nic - long time no see! So much drama and politics on this'ere forum now. Wish we could just rewind it back to the early days on TK moving on to TF. But I guess it was bound to happen considering the size of trials now. Oh well, good times were had anyway! xx
Tony Harrison
I'm not too bothered myself. I use the forum for trials-related news and information, the occasional video, etc. Politics and crap like that bore me.Although Sameer, I do wish we could rewind back a few years. Not for the forums, or the web, but for the riding and good times.

delusional
delusional. Posted less then 200 wonderful times as far as i can remember.Wonderful eh? Cheers Still only on 233 posts (not counting ones in Chit-Chat though, that's a lot more). I must admit to not being entirely sold on the concept of Senior Members. It's clearly a form of popularity contest of the type I'm very opposed to in The Real World, and due to this you seem to find that Senior Members tend to represent a fairly homogenous view point. This is both a good and a bad thing. In part this helps give the forum something of an identity, SMs and Admins representing a fairly synchronous ideal imprints that upon the forum as a whole (but still allows for dissenting debate). Unfortunately it's very hard not to have your view of the forum slightly adjusted by being an SM: the very existence of a restricted, invite-only room that you are a part of intrinsically adjusts your perception of everything outside that room (and I would hasten to suggest it's not for the better). I did consider dropping out of being an SM for this very reason, but I think once that perception has been adjusted removing the cause won't reverse the effect. This has to be done with a more conscious effort.
