Si-man Posted November 12, 2006 Report Share Posted November 12, 2006 They stop flex in the frame and rim when the clamping pressure from is applied. If you watch the frame and rim with no booster on when you apply the brake, the frame will flex like a mother f**ker, but with a booster it flex less.Makes the brake feel alot stiffer and less spongy so you get a nice firm brake lock. The rear triangle of a bike frame is designed for strength up/down, ie for when you land on it with your weight, but the booster is designed to take the lateral force of the brake pushing outwards once the pads have hit the rim.
