Disc Brake

to be honest i prefer just to have 33's front and back because you can get a large range of pads and if you side hop to the left theres no chance of killing your disk off if you don't make it. but if i had to have one it would be an avid juicy seven they feel so nice

In al honesty The BB7 will be my next brake, loads more people use them, as they feel nicer, and they also much better to set up. My Hope felxed like a bitch, and also some guy down from uni was out riding, one second he hope was alright, then his caliper started to flex, along with his lever.

Not sure how mine popped, but it wasn't as nice feeling as my Julie. But Avidd BB7 will be my next buy.

my marta works good, dosent roll at all, got a 158mm rotor, cut down from a 160mm rotor by a enginere so it could fit, not a proper marta rotor so it rubbed :) suggest a avid or a magura louise if not...

coming from the downhill world to this new strange place of trials, i know little about discs, oh just one thing yeah hydraulics can come in packs, the old shimano saints etc (that range of stuff) came in caliper and rotor and then the lever was separate, so yeah, anyway yeah i was wondering about discs on trials bikes as well, as i wouldn't mind getting a front one, but thing i will stick with a 33 on the rear because like someone said more pads and well prefer them.

Difference between the trial, and the normal mono is that the trial has allot larger pistons, and not really a great deal of modulation which as i keep getting told you don't need in trials, and the trial brake just bites with a lot more power, talk to me on msn if you want to get hold of a cheap mono mini by any chance.

BB7. - Simple to set up.

Don't require bleeding, or the risk of contaminating pads and rotor with the oil.

So easy to set-up, turn the stationary pad in a few clicks, then the other one a few times, do up the cable, then pull the lever, and do up the caliper. Then just undo the stationary pad untill it doesn't rub, but is as close to the rotor as possible.

Yes you do have to buy a lever, and cables, but that will cost pennies off eBay. ;)

yoyo! Thx guys for help and advice. I just been into my lbs after school and they still have the hope xc hub in red I orderd, and labour be £20 to build wheel. £140 for the hope mono trials 180mm rotor.

P.s. Maybe more if my spokes don't fit :)

~Matty

£140 is Hopes RRP, 2nd hand you could get one thats all working and a MKII as theres is probs a MKI for £90 to £60

£20 for a wheel build inc spokes or not? If not then thats a lot, most are aout £10/£12

Is a hope better for bigger built people???

P.s. Im Big and phat :P

~matty (Y)

I am also big and fat (probs biggerer and fatter than you :P) and i have used a 180mm and 200mm hopes and 185 and 203mm avids and every time i have gone back to an avid, they are just SOOOOO much better than th hopes, easier to setup, MUCH more adjustable and when used with a decent cable and lever feels much nicer than a hope!

If it is going on a mod i would say hat a fron 160mm avid would surfice and if stock go for a 203mm (Y)

Hope that helps

Adam

alright mate. i use a hope mono trials front with 160 rotor and its sharp as. But you can also feather the brake to roll around on your front wheel and stuff. just make sure the disk is clean always. Don't use tar or spray on it (N) and when you first get it, it wont work at all but just ride around with the brake on and it will ware in because the pads are new and then it will be as sharp as sharp can be. And yes the bigger the disk is the sharper the brake will be :-
