Fixed Pants™
Is the air bag switched on? I know on my Nans car(same as), on the passenger side side of the dash theres a key thing and you can switch the air bags on or off.
Heatsink
That could have been a much more serious crash there Joe.I hope that we don't see any more of this sort of thing on TF! Careful driving ***
tank_rider
Unlucky mate, I take it it was a bit on the wet side. As everyone else said, at least your ok.In terms of insurance, i would say unless it more than about 200-300 more than your excess then don't bother claiming as the increase in premiums will more than clean up that amount more than your £500 excess. I'm no car expert but having had the bumper replaced on the fiesta a couple of years ago, and a bonnet repaired that was about £500 in total, and there wasn't any rad damage or anything else, so i'd think you'll be looking at quite a lot, however if you can fir the stuff yourself (or with mates help) then getting it sprayed will be the most expensive bit. I had a crash too and the air bag didn't go off, the impact was kind of side on like yours so maybe they need to be hit dead straight on? not sure
george_seamons
There was probably something wrong with the electrics. Don't forget...its a fiat! Might want to get the looked at though, if it doesn't go off in a more serious accident, you could end up a bit mangled. Don't forget, I speak from experience here!Slam panel is the bit right at the front of the car that various parts attach to. It also reinforces the front of the car, and MUST be replaced after a front impact.Aftermarket bumpers for any less than £100 will be shit fibreglass things that need mounts fabricated (which will raise the cost even more) Try to get a genuine bumper if you can.EDIT: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fiat-Punto-Mk2-1999-...1QQcmdZViewItem Try that for the front bumper £47 inc delivery. Its not some chavvy piece of crap, so shouldn't need any fabrication. Doesn't really matter about colour either, 'cos it will need to be sprayed anyway.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIAT-PUNTO-BONNET-19...1QQcmdZViewItemBrand new bonnet. £106 inc delivery.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fiat-Punto-front-sla...1QQcmdZViewItemI think this will fit. Slam panel and radiator mounting. At £9.99 plus £14.99 delivery. Expect it to go up to about £50.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIAT-PUNTO-60-MK2-19...2QQcmdZViewItemRadiator. £75 inc delivery. TomR
Sod getting stuff sprayed, just look extra hard for the right colour bits. As i said scour punto forums for people who've modded them and are selling old parts (bumpers are pretty common on forums)Definitely wouldn't have bent the chassis whoever said that. Gay Fiats.ANNDDD... it's not too hard to spray it yourself Joe, have you got any mates in the industry? i'm sure they'll help out a mate. TomR
Also, with regard to the airbag, you may have missed the impact sensor, which is unlikely but i guess possible.

Leaving you about £200 for a spray job/labour. Most of it you could do yourself in all honesty. Fixed Pants™
I was doing about 30 , and the road is a 60 oh my god!!1! You fell asleep? Well atleast you weren't driving like a twat and can't blame yourself to an extent. And for Jason and his hairdrier, it's twats on mopeds that crash into things and die or get seriously injured and claim on insurance that bump up premiums, wizzing down the inside of the lane. tipsy Jock
no i just find it harsh when i have to pay £800 when it be half that if there wasent nutter out thereTell me you don't pay £800 to insure a hair dryer?!?Accidents can happen at any speed, admittedly faster driving increases the chances of this. The reason that prices are high is because of the way the insurance industry works its hardly all Joe's falt is it?
adamtrials
You're 'ard! A hairdrier on wheels! Fixed Pants™
Says the kid on a 50cc mini crosser...Shh they don't know that, but it's for a sport not looking 'ard on, and i don't wizz down roads sounding like a feckin' pizza hut bike, docking the throttle so it sounds like it has actually got gears and thinking that it makes it go faster, mine sounds so much beefier than hairdriers. anzo
The guys 16. Moped is better than a f**king bus with fat smelly wankers everyday, and cheaper. Do you take all the corners on a country (60mph) road at 60? Nope. Dont try to say like you werent going to fast, you must have been. You got your new gearbox and clutch, thought you would have a bit of a rag and went a bit too far in the wet. Ive done it myself mate so stop kidding yourself into thinking your innocent! In terms of fixing it, no mates in the business? Id defo go for second hand bumper etc
