Leesons?

correct me of im wrong, but leesons are NOT light at all, i seem to remember them being fairly heavy!

granted they do appear to be fairly strong, but you wont catch me on one any time soon.

they have VERY old school geomerty, the std frames have a wheelbase under 1000mm, low BB, not overly short stays, yet tyre clearence is still AWFUL.

personally, i dont think tehy ride well AT ALL, they feel heavy and arkward to ride, like your stuck on some mid 90's small MTB frame.

sure, from an engineering point of veiw theyre lovely, with some neat ideas.

but if you actually want to ride some trials on it, i personally wouldnt bother.

unless your VERY street.

it was lighter than my titanium frame bike built and i wasnt using heavy parts at all.

i mean owning one :P i was on rich pearsons on sunday!

for streety fun and non trialsy moves they are nice, but for serious trial stuff i just dont like them AT ALL.

the D15C isnt so bad, but thats not exactly a mass produced frame at all.....

however- i did forget about the 24'' leesons, now they ARE gorgeous......

and mike, i seem to remember Anals old leeson back in the day was seriously heavy :S

nick wont like mine when it arrives, mainly due to the geo, but i think they are nice frames, and i prefer old geo to the new(er) long and low brigade- i just can't ride those AT ALL (dont even think about saying i cant ride anyway nick :P )

They are strong, mid to heavy, but not overly so, and have great customer service behind them.

As far as weights concirned, if I remember right leesons are made from Reynolds tubing, meaning as far as materials are concirned, there gunna be a lighter than cheepish 4130 chro-molly (most £200ish steels frames ie. DMR, 24seven ect), and lighter then T45 (Iolo, Curtis ect) but slightly weeker than T45 I think, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Of corse this all depends on things like frame design and wall thickness, I just mean the material its self.

The average Leeson frame weigh's in at 4.5lbs. Which is lighter than Adamant A2's, Onza T-Rex's + Limey's, Ashton Justice's, Zoo! Pitbull '06's + '07's, Revell's, Czar Ivan's, Echo Control '07's, BT Raven 7.0 and Simtra ST1's.

So they're not THAT heavy.

Rich

you sure about that rich?

as al has comfirmed his was a mega hefty 6lb! and that was no different to any other leeson frame :S apart from a few mm longer.....

i think to be ohnist they are light, i have had many bikes in my time, as peeps who know me are most probley noddin there heads like a churchill dog. One of my lightest ones was a leeson, im running a 26mhz atm, and i think my leeson is lighter than that. I think they are a good frame indeed. My mate CLEM CRAIG is a born legend, he has only just got another leeson frmae, he had his previous frame for .......... 5-6 years or sumin, and he had one problem with it ..... 5-6 years of abuse!!!!! as for clive, he does a geo you want, paint you want, probly make some kind of coffee machince on it if you want. And if you have a problem, he sorts it, CLIVE YOU LEGEND!!!!

Both my 20" and 24" leeson weighed in at between 4.5 and 5lbs frame only. I cant comment on Anals frame, as I know little baout it, but I do know that Clive has a choice of tubes to use, butted or plain gauge etc, and so can vary the weight/durability of the frames he makes.

I have only good things to say bout my Leeson bikes and my experiance with Clive. Hes been awesome about me thrashing my frames and generally beeing arkward, including building up my 24" with me late on chistmas eve a could of years back so I could get it before the holidays were over.

true but clive added a gusset in there ... one thing to add to, good luck seeing a repair to work on a zoo/echo etc .... stell all the way baby! good thing is with leesons is you can add to them, everyone rides differently, so some might be under loads of stress where as others might as well have a basket on them, and pop down the shops if you see what i mean

Agreed , 24 isnt good for uci trials at all.

My White leeson is bomb proof and still pretty light to boot!

:P

It has a 1030 wheelbase.+25 bb rise

Saying all that , im not keen on the 26 inchers

Portsmouth again soon Nick?

anyone who's had a spin on mine knows its pretty damn light, granted its only a 1000mm wheelbase so is pretty short and tight. Compared it to an 06 Python on a Bristol ride a while back and be damned if I could tell the difference! I dont even have lightweight components on it either :P Never had a problem with it, and yeah ok so it isnt exactly a UCI style frame, but then nothing that short is going to be!

Saying that, if you consider front taps, sidehops etc to be more "proper" trials then look at what Rich can do on his double disk frame....

They are strong as hell 2, and Im pretty sure Clive has made some for people as long as 1040, so Im sure depending on style of riding it could be adopted by pretty much anybody. Clive truly is a legend though and you can do a fair bit of customising to suit how you like to ride :)

Get one, you definately wont be sorry!
