luke_onza
I don’t mean to post this as it is a bit of a pointless topic but I have marked out squares in my tryall rim and fielded them out, will this make my rim loads weaker? It looks really smart but I would prefer performance over looks. Luke
max-t
yes, it will make it weaker.how much weaker depends on how much you have removed.if yo remove material from any thing it will get weaker.pics?max...

MadManMike
I assume you mean Filed not Fielded... but yeah, it depends how much you take off...If you just do it a little to make it rough I can't see it being that much weaker... luke_onza
Yes that is what I mean. Trials Maniac
possibly yes, but you have said you don't know if it is a for sale one so i think the mods wont mind. and its not exactly a for sale post becasue your not gaining from it, you are giving them away.On topic; coud you put some pictures up of the rim please? george_seamons
Square holes will make the stress put on the rim concentrate on each of the four corners of the square rather than spread out over the whole circular shape. Thus causing a stress riser. That's why its advised to drill a small hole at either end of a crack in a frame, because the circular shape at the end of the shape makes it a lot harder for the crack to spread, as opposed to the sharp, pointy nature of a line. But I doubt on a rim, it will make that much difference, seeing as there are so many holes to begin with, the stress will be spread out a bit more.
