Brian Bleech
i disagree with any software which uses its own format and deviates from ripping things to mp3i tried to get some songs off my housemates computer from cds she'd ripped to her pc and they were in wanky ipod/itunes format so they wouldnt playmp3 players should be like usb sticks in my opinion. drag and drop. anyone know a good one like this? i've refrained from an ipod for too long but fear i might be swayed unless i find another alternative creative zen maybe! Plus you can set up itunes to import as mp3 (which I have now done), but yeah it can be annoying if you rip something with itunes and want to use it on anything other than itunes/ipod.I have mine set up as manually update, which is far better for me as I have more music than I can fit on my ipod and I recently reinstalled itunes back to a 2year copy that came with my ipod because the new version was too fancy and i couldn't be arsed with it and my shit pc couldn't handle it. but I don't have a problem in itunes putting all my music in one place on my harddisk, makes it easier. PaRtZ
good news was on the news last night if anyone watched it....a norwegian (or one of them ^countries ) has managed to crack it and created a program for getting round the problem I personally dont have any problems at all: Because I dont have one
Joe_Elding
Apparently, if you plug it in and then enable viewing of secret files in windows explorer/my computer thingy then you can see the Ipod on my computer and just drag stuff in/out of it? not sure if its true though. Tomm
good news was on the news last night if anyone watched it....a norwegian (or one of them ^countries ) has managed to crack it and created a program for getting round the problem That only applies to protected content. Everyone clever turns that stuff off and rips to plain MP3. Although it should mean that songs from the iTunes store will now be convertable to any format so you can play music that you have bought online (In case anyone actually does that).Apparently, if you plug it in and then enable viewing of secret files in windows explorer/my computer thingy then you can see the Ipod on my computer and just drag stuff in/out of it? not sure if its true though. It is and it isn't. you can set the iPod to use disk mode in iTunes preferences (only when the ipod is plugged in I think). However, this makes a separate partition on the iPod for storing general stuff, and it's separate to the music bit, so any music you put there won't play on it. So it's useful for some things, but not for this.

haydon_peter
mp3 players should be like usb sticks in my opinion. drag and drop. anyone know a good one like this? i've refrained from an ipod for too long but fear i might be swayed unless i find another alternative Archos Gmini XS202SI purchased that player along with some Sennheiser CX300 Headphones a few weeks ago and am extremely happy so far!Works through USB and windows recognises it as an external HDD, drag and drop mp3's into the Music folder on the player and your done. The player is nice and small, the battery life is decent at ~17hours, you have 18.5gb of storage and the sound quality is amazing! All I have done is stored all the files as 'Artist/Album/Track Number - Track Name' and they are all listed in decent order
nmt_oli
I've basically come in here to agree, its toss.Tried lanscan? I recommend it for everybody on a uni network.[attachmentid=7765]hmm, this is interesting, but i am not getting a lotof results from it! I have installed it, and scanned the network, comes up with a list of stuff (but to files or folders, more liek areas, but i cant go further into them by double clicking and none of the right click optiosn work (compy, run, explore) it jsut says "file or folder not selected". does my uni network just have too much security? They're just the right amount of intervention. That is to say they organise music files by artist and album and stuff based on their tags, but you can listen to music in MP3 WMA or Ogg Vorbis (huuuuuge plus) and it does what it's told without being faffy and shite. Plus it's a far better choice for PC users because it integrates so damned well with Windows media player (especially 11 series )Joe x
MadManMike
Agreed Anal. The main problem being it's long winded. It's like me driving to scotland then flying to france.Main problem being Apple are too up their own arse to play WMA's, so instead of simple windows drag-n-drop you have to go through their (slow as f**k) software and convert each WMA. Then there's the numerous error messages...Most MP3 players copy over like a USB stick - WHHHHHY couldn't Apple do this? Most of all, when I play music it opens in iWank instead of what I did have installed, so I have to revert back, when the shite shouldn't have changed it (Yes, I did tell it not to)I HATE ITUNES, ITS THE SOLE REASON IM SELLING MY 4GB MINI.Apple - you suck. iBook, iPod, iCack - you all suck.Using the iPod is nice, but the software makes it a rage filled experience. Tomm
Say what you want about the iPods... But never speak ill of the Apple laptops, especially since I'm guessing you've never used one?
minitrialer
Yer apple's are great. So what if they don't want to use wma? I think itunes is very simple and you have to be simple to not understand it. It pretty much is drag and drop as are most things on my imac, if anything it is VERy easy to use. The only difference is that you are dragging and dropping inside itunes and not a windows window!
br3n
it would still be a lot easier not to have to use itunes in the first place. should just be like every other mp3 player and work as a storage device.
