King Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have a problem with my Chris King iso hub.

For some reason the cone that preloads the bearings keep coming loose, i tigthen it up, and then i can ride for a couple of days and then it comes loose again..

Do i need to tighten the axle-thing to the rest of the axle mad hard or what?

what to do?

i got the classic hub, and mine was loose the other day (the wheel would wobble when you wobble it), i tightened the 5mm allen key bolts up and it still wobbled a bit..... so i took that bit off and screwed the next thing along with my hand and it is fine now.

i'd put money on that wright pads will give you some reason why it is doing it and a solution! lmaon!

Yeah, the "next thing along" is the cone i was talking about. I´ve done what you did a couple of times, and the play stops. But after a couple of rides it comes back..

c'mon wright pads. :)

Undo the axle removing the non drive side.

Take take the bearing preloader and thread it onto the axle. Push down on to it and do it up finger tight.

Fit the non drive side axle on.

2 x 5mm allen keys and do them to 110LBS (a good full tug)

This is for the STD axle aka the XC one

Just check to make sure the bearings do not bind!!!

Well you can't be. I've had Chris King for what now past ten years, yes mine have come loses but do what i told you and problem is sorted!

Try taking the axle out, cleaning all the threads on the axle!

Also you sure what 110LBS is? Basicly as you tighten it up the wheel or hub should quickly twist one way.....just shows your pushing enough!

Still got problems come back....or even send me it, i'll fix it in 2 mins of it being delvered, will test it there and then and send it back all same day.

Just came back from a ride and the play is back..

ofc i'm not sure how much force 110LBS is, who is? :)

what do you mean "quickly twist one way"?

do i need to careful or should i tight it up as hard as i can?

but i don't own a torque wrench.

To be honest, I dont think 110lb is going to make a major difference. Tight is tight, As long as your not putting it in a vice and forcing the feck out of it you'll have little to worry about. :)

No hard feelings.

110LBS is what King says in the manual

And the magura manual says use oil.

I'm saying that it doesn't have to be exact, yes, its recommended, but its not essential. As long as its not *too* loose/tight that will cause damage, which in any case is unlikely...unless you're completely stupid.

Oh and i forgot to say the big ginger mechaninc that we all love here and shop form Tarty, his King service guide says the same too!

110LBS is need on the king!

Magura have never used anyhting less than Oil. Ask Jake the Magura rep if you ever see him.
