Mod Bike Tyre Pressure

Look, I know this is a VERY frequently asked question... But what tyre pressure should I run? I ride a Monty 221Pr with Monty tyres and I usually have the front at 21psi and rear 20psi but I can't feel the tyre bounce... Is it time to change the tyre pressure that I ride at? I weigh about 68-70kg. Also, when riding urban or natural, do you use different tyre pressures and do you use different tyre pressures for different types of tyres? Is there a foolproof way of seeing what kind of tyre pressure to run?

I run 25 in the front and 20 in the back, and mine bounces ;) I believe people tend to use a lower pressure when riding natural rather than street.

I carry a pump when I go riding and change my tyre pressure depending on what im doing, i.e. If im gonna be landed on a step or something with a sharp right angled edge, I have it higher than if im riding curved edged walls etc.

It's personal preference what tyre pressure you run.

I would advice you to use a lower amount of pressure when riding natural because you would get more grip on rocks and it would be harder riding natural with hard pressure however if you are ridin street it would be better for a little more pressure because it would be easier for spins etc. I would advice you to use different amount of pressure so you can see which you would ride the best with. The reason this is such a FAQ is becuase there is no answer. It's also the same reason we get lots of topics about pads. Again, there is no answer, so the question keeps getting asked.

For a start, there's no point in talking about PSI. PSI chages with peoples weight, type of trye, width of rim and there will be lot of other factors out there.

The best thing you can do is pump your tyer up so somewhere near, then mess about on a curb landing right on the edge. You should feel your tyer compess, but sholdn't be close near hitting the rim.

I have these rail like things that go round our garden, to divide the grass up from the drive. I carefully backwheel it, and i know when i've got enough air in when it very nearly hits the rim.

However, i mainly ride natural. Non of driving onto rails from god knows how many feet for me! So it really is trial and error.

You can always put waaay to much air in your tyer and let a little out when you get to your destination. Not only do you have a hard tyer which makes getting around easier, but you can let a little out, ride, and let more out if needs be. Just be careful not to let too much air out. It is very easily done. Little by little.
