Ben Beckett
i need a bb that is square taper, it HAS to be 127.5 mm or 128 mm, i want to know where you can buy them from, how much they are, your opinion if you are/have used them. i want a cheapish one because i had a cheap one for a long time doing many big gaps/drops etc and it lasted many many months, ( i had a shimano one from crc) cheers people! ruckus_street
iv always wondered why trials riders havn't started using external BBs yet. I have a shimano saint crankset on my GT Ruckus freeride bike and it has taken a shocking amount of abuse without needing any maintenance whatsoever. Altho they are pretty heavy. When i used to run ISIS bottom brackets on it, they were always giving me hassle.
RobinJI
Best budget BB you can get in alot of people's opinion: Shimano UN53, £14 from CRC, There tough and the bearing last years.Echo external BB, for ISIS cranks. As far as I know no one makes a Hollowtech 2/X-type crankset in either screw on or 5 arm compact, so trials riders haven't been drawn into them, due to them not being able to go any smaller then 22t chainrings, also the limited chainline can be a problem when running a granny ring. Echo make there external ISIS BB which solves these problems. Edited October 21, 2006 by Dont you Just Hate it When...

RobinJI
Ah, yeah, the XT you had uses a hollow axle rather than the solid one in the UN53. I've always used UN53s on square taper, and haven't had a problem with one yet. I snapped an ancient UN52, but it was about 3 years old.Edit: I'm sure the hollow axle wouldn't really make much of a difference, but in theory it must make some.
