Matthew_Gibson
There's a noise coming from the front end. I don't know where its coming from. I noticed this when I was back hopping and my forks/front wheel seemed, like, bouncing. I could feel them moving too. Can anyone help me out. I'm going to go and take the forks off now and have a look at the headset etc. but if any on you guys can help me that would be great. Thanks for your time! Greetings
Undo the bolts on your stem, tighten the screw on the headset cap and then screw down the stem. Should help. If not, you've got bearing problems or something similar.
nafan
I think I have the same problem, a sort out creaking cracking sound? If it is it will be fine, I've got used to it, I think its either steerer length or headset bearings, I think it's steerer length as mine has only done it since I got my new forks...Try adding some headset spacers, failing that you may need a new headset...Nathan
Fixed Pants™
My forks wobble in the headset, which is annoying, but creaking normally means its about to crack?
Matthew_Gibson
If not, you've got bearing problems or something similar. The bearing on the bottom of my head set are f**ked, I think. They don't seem to go into the frame, I can move the forks about 5mm forward and backwards. Unsafe to ride. But i have no idea what to do, New headset? new bearings? Edited October 19, 2006 by Matt Gibson

RobinJI
Hey, from the diagram I'm guessing you've got a pig. If so then You have probably just shagged the lower bearings, just find some at you're local bike shop. Or if you want a quick fix then pop the remaining balls out of the cage, and just put them in loose, just stick them to the cup with some thick greese while you put it back together, if you dont think that leaves enough bearings then just nab some 1/4 inch bearings out of anything else, like an old loose ball hub so that the bottom cup if full of bearings. Although fiddily, its actualy stonger than having the cage in! Edited October 19, 2006 by Dont you Just Hate it When...

They're huge!Check your forks arn't about to die, i thought my headset was loose, but then my forks came apart at the steerer/crown interface. Walleee
I ran a pig with 4 or 5 bearing's loose, without a crown race for ages when I was 13 or 14 or so, lasted for ages and ran sweet.

Yeah, its hard to get get hold of them cagged, but there 1/4inch which is the standard size for hubs like Deores, so just get some of those and run em loose
