26inch
no, special patten just be careful, you should always use new spokes anyway as the wheel will last better

He is right though, then it will bed it nicely.Or you could just loosen all the spokes off slightly and evenly all the way round. Then just switch them one by one onto your new rim. Tighten evenly all the way round again when there on your new rim.

eskimo
So your de-spoking your wheel to take the rim off so you can send the hub and spoke to somewhere to be built? Am i reading your post correctly?
Luke Rainbird
Are they the right length for your new rim/hub/whatever?Need to be close enough else tensions will be out and it will be a bit screwed...
bhups
Tape the 2 rims (the old wheel rim with the spokes and hub and the new rim) up together with the valve hole at the same place then 1 by 1 go around switching them over to your new rim. Tighten them evenly about 4 or 5 turns per spoke when switiching them then go around giving a half turn each spoke till the spokes are tight and true. Tim-Hill..Yeah Mate
yeh, i'm keeping same hub and spokes and same size rim so i'm not going to need different length spokeshad the 06 echo, getting 07 as i gave the 06 a few flat spots and it got dodgy.Tim. But i'm going from what he said so i don't think he wants to true it out as he is not confident in doing that, i guess?[edit] grammer problems Edited October 17, 2006 by eskimo

RobinJI
Hey, to avoid bending them just undo them all, then uncross them and take them out without the rim on there.
Dan6061
You probably wont be able to use the same spokes again, unless you're getting the same rim.Different lengths and all that.
ben
if u compleatly undo each spoke then u can move the hub round and slide the spokes out easy peasie. ben

Alun Goch
Remove all the nipples, hold the rim on its side, twist the hub one way till half the spokes come out, then the same twisting the other way, and bobs yer mothers brother!Alun
Tim-Hill..Yeah Mate
Hi,i almost got it.. i bent about 3 or 4 spokes not too bad for a first attempt. i think now i'll just get new spokes as the ones i have now are obviusly going to be weaker but now i need to know what size to get, i think its 185mm but not sure, i have a echo screw in hub http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?id=227 and echo 07 rim, can anyone tell me the exact size i need?thanksTim. Wright Pads
Why...When you build a new rim you bend the spokes no matter what you do! I have tried it to build a wheel inhand and side the rim in but it's not easy! The amount of tension you have to aply pulls the spokes tight and streight and it's really minamula bending you need to do!Anyway undo all nipples, twist the hub a little in drive direction, and pull the hub n da spoke out, then fondel the hub at ether end to et them out!Dead easy
Tim-Hill..Yeah Mate
ive taken all spokes and as i already said, but i kind of buggerd 2 up.. tried to bodge true my wheel with a pair of pliers and i made the nipple ovel shape so spoke doesnt screw in, do you think my lbs will have right size and strength?Tim.
