Token
Hey gays guys.First car, first 'ice' install. Now as you do, I've got a headunit, get the first big thing out the way. Now today I pulled my front doors apart to have a look at the speakers. Think Ill do these first rather than just cover up the distortion of the poo front speakers with 6 x 9's.So heres where I'm stuck: (this is a speaker I've pulled out)Firstly: whats the size of my speaker? Is it 16cm? or isit 13cm (from screwhole to screwhole)?Secondly: Component or full range? which to choose.Thirdly: Any recommendations, I don't want to spend realisticly, anymore than 60pounds (been looking at vibe kevlars). So looking for good quality not budget easily distorted sh!te pieces.I plan on getting a sub with external amp, the front speakers will be solely powered by the HU if thats any help. CBProductions
Full range and it will be the diametre of the actually speaker not the fitting as its the speaker you measure to sit in correctly into the box / door whatever if in doubt pop into halfords and ask and whatever you do , don't buy from there. I would run full range in doors sub in boot if needed at all then 6x9's for reinforcement
trialkid
if your planning on getting a sub dont go for 6x9s just ruin it, inphase are pretty good for components my mates got them and the clarity is real good, lanzar if u have the money are just amazing imo car audio centre is a really good site. Caleb
will be 16/16.5, can you not get acess to a better ruler/verniers though?either way 16/16.5 is a common size, i got some vibe fli's for my little set up which aint half bad for a budget set.ugly as fudge though, im going for some nice rainbow comps when funds allow
mod_rider
I got all mine off ebay, which is well worth a look!!Depending on what you want the system for, any high quality speakers would be good for the front. As for the subs, it all depends on what you want it to sound like and how high quality. For the money, kicker subwoofers are hard to beat on bass, but there not as high a quality. My mate's got a 12" kicker on an 800W amp, and it's louder than my other mate's who's got 2 2000W audiobahn subs powered on 2 1500W amps. However the audiobahn outdoes the kicker on quality hands down. However the kicker and amp was about £250 in total off ebay, and the audiobahn was about £1500.I only spend about £200 on a 1000W Boss amp, 2 10" Boss subs, 2 alpine 6x9s and 2 alpine 5" speakers for the front. However if I could buy a system again, I'd do what has been said and just get some front door speakers and a high quality sub. As chavvy as it is, I love the bass, makes you feel the music rather than just hear it.
RobinJI
All coming from my mate who works in a car audio shop. He says you measure the actual speeker so there 13cm's, and to go for some Alpines, Componants if you can afford them and they'll fit, full range if not. His alpine full range's were 39.99 and they fitted perfectly, also 13cm's, and they sound really nice.
