steve@banbury-trials
telephone poles if you look on the wooden ones you might find black dribbles of tar on the side ,just pick it of and rub it on your rims works a treat and is absolutely free £ £ £

Matt_Tupman
Hardly 'specific' though Yea, as said, ask builders and they'll probably give you some.No it's really is I heard it was developed by Ot Pi but Koxx thought it wasn't very good so they made their own formular. The juey is still out on which one is best
Reece B
yea... i did have some but i ran out. but i only needed the smallest bit and the brake was amazing
newb
Is there a certain way to apply it or do you just "Rub it on"?lewis...
Reece B
rub it on... depends what tar you have some can be easy to apply and some can be hard so some times u need a bit of force to apply it
zoo
I find applying it in diagonal lines works best zoo baby!
onza-biff
Is there a certain way to apply it or do you just "Rub it on"?Yes just rub it on, don't put on to much though, as it makes the pads stick to the rims even after you have released the brake lever, and can cause some nasty falls. I used to use tar, but i tend to stay away from it now. To be honest you're just better getting the rim grinded, it is much better.
Reece B
a grind is ok i guess.... but its cheaper to use tar in the long run i think, and it saves your rim for longer.
Grizzly
But can i ask one question - Is it ok to grind your front rim, because ive never seen it before. If not ill just stick to tar.
anzo
No one will stop you, although the 'whats in whats out club' might have some words on the matter.By all means grind away, no problems with it
RobinJI
Yeah, front grinds are fine. Could try just grinding one side at first, so it's a little more subtle, or nice soft pads made for clean rims. Only reason you don't see many ground front rims is because it looses alot of modulation, so makes wheelswaps and such a bit trickier. But if you're not into that kinda thing then go for it!Also grinding isn't more expencive really, be a scab and borrow a grinder, practice on an old nackered rim, and then do it yourself, that way its free! JT!
Is there a certain way to apply it or do you just "Rub it on"?lewis...Just rubbing it on will do but there's a much better way...Apply it in lines about 2cm from the next, all the way round your rim. The lines sould all be pointing towards the hub, so perpendicular to the direction of travel. Itll give you much more consistant braking than just slapping it on.
