steve@banbury-trials
hi ,im pondering over getting myself a ffw setup .just wonder what stock riders think of ffw setups on their bikes?and how many of you use them ,and which setups are best.steve
Ash-Kennard
originally used on stock bikes for competition usage where you could chnge ger while rolling and not having to pedal.I wouldn't use them, ive seen too many blow up. Fishy
My friend uses one at the moment, and it runs really smooth. But I would prefer a hub instead of a ffw.
court
Hi i would go for it, i have seen hubs blow up aswell but at least it isnt a wheel build everytime you break a freewheel all you have to do is get spares.court
Ash-Kennard
when you have seen a hub blow up, why can't you replace the internals? unless its totally mashed. and if needs be, learn to build your own wheels, its simple enough. Guest
when you have seen a hub blow up, why can't you replace the internals? unless its totally mashed. and if needs be, learn to build your own wheels, its simple enough.I think it's more to do with the fact that it's easier to replace a crank arm with freewheel than it is to replace (not to mention carry around) an entire rear wheel.Consider competition condition's, where you have limited time to change component's, easier to remove a crank arm and throw another on than deflate tyre, remove old wheel, put new wheel in, inflate tyre, and then have problems with perhaps not having the same grind and braking becoming inconsistent or tyre pressure's giving hassle.Being able to change gears while not pedalling is certainley an effect, but very few rider's these days use gears, of course some do, but I wouldn't imagine the deciding factor being gear changes without pedalling....I don't think there is an advantage either way for those who are not competing, I do however think front freewheel is the way to go for competition use. Also, there is money, two chris king rear wheels could cost £400, two drive side crank arm's and freewheels could cost half that...... Orgun_Donor
Id say on a Stock run a rear free hub. But on the new 26"Mobs, you probably would be better of with a front freewheel. So far I've managed to demolish 2 profile mini cassete hubs, and 2 on the 24Seven hubs. and now Ive just changed to an ENO, and its running much smoother! muddyfox
I've ridden with king, hope and all hubs in between and broken them all. Since swithching to ffw 2 year ago i have never had a problem..

M3LLON_t-mag
i have got to sya i run one on my vinco its a good setup or at least i think so i think 80 on a new ENO is better than 300 on a king, and also i feel alot more snap on a ffw compared to when i roda a friends bike running a king but obviously i am biased but i would seriously recommend a ffw setup
Joe Sweeney
hi i would sugest a tensile on the front both my mate and my brother ride a tensile with a 12 tooth on the back it's very nice to ridesoory about that last post it was an accident
26inch
i dont think it makes much difference, my mate has a front eno which works real nice and has never caused any problems, it also means the weight is more central in the bike, then i run a hope xc and have never had problems, its all swings and roundabouts really, a front freewhell set up is prob cheaper if your buying cranks nd rear wheel at same time.
