Clawz114
Hi guys just a quick questionMe and my mate have just got a cheap bmx frame and we are going to put 26" forks on it and just make a chopper type bike and we were thinking about how we could use magura rim brakes on the rear. seeing as the bmx frame has no hydraulic mounts and for some reason the v-brake mounts wont work with the magura v-brake adaptors. we thought about drilling 4 holes on the chainstays on the frame...2 on each side, then putting bolts through the holes and through magura mounts with a nut on 1 side. obviously we would have to line it all up correctly but other than that is there any particular reason why this wouldnt work? ThanksDan Edited October 12, 2006 by Clawz114
SCOTTY___
Just get some Magura Evo mounts and run them upside down? Weve done it befor. Feels abit spongy and lacks abit of power put works VERY well. Saves killing a frame.

Willsey
no mate im pretty sure it wouldnt work, the amount of flex the frame has shows the strength of the brake.. your mounts look good but would surely just slide round?
Dan6061
evo mounts dont work with the v-brake mounts They do upside down on a bmx, with a bmx wheel.

Clawz114
They do upside down on a bmx, with a bmx wheelDEAR f**kING GOD WHEN I SAY THE EVO MOUNTS DO NOT WORK I MEAN THEY DO NOT WORK.NORMAL WAY AROUND - NOUPSIDE DOWN - NOSIDEWAYS - NONotif they were bolted down like he said I would give it a whizz, it doesnt sound like you care about the frame so yeh, I personally dont see why not, just get th holes the righ size and use washers or else I think the bolts may pull through. No your right, the frame was £20The idea is to basically run the maguras in the exact same was as with 4 bolt mounts but instead of the threaded end of the bolt being screwed into the frame it comes out the other side of the frame and we screw a big nut on the end. Fixed Pantsâ„¢
evo mounts dont work with the v-brake mountsForgive me if i'm wrong (which i probably am, 'cos i'm a n00b) but doesn't that defeat the purpose of evo mounts? Did you try it with a bmx wheel? Or that mod wheel in the pic? - Just wondering..before you explode with rage again..Hmm that might be why, well it doesnt work. the main reason of this topic is to see if the design we thought of would work or not and reasons why it would/wouldnt Edited October 12, 2006 by Clawz114

Dan6061
Sorry, but when you say things like this: DEAR f**kING GOD WHEN I SAY THE EVO MOUNTS DO NOT WORK I MEAN THEY DO NOT WORK.NORMAL WAY AROUND - NOUPSIDE DOWN - NOSIDEWAYS - NOWITH A BMX WHEEL - YES.Then it comes across to basically everyone as they don't work full stop. But it does, and we're only letting you now how.. Anyway... I like the idea, if you can get the holes in the perfect position then you're laughing. Just gotta make sure that the mounts you make still have adjustments and have the pads still hitting the rim perfectly. But i'm sure you know that...Nice. Clawz114
Man ur a dick, get a bmx 20" wheel on and youur sorted.ok, well the point of making a chopper type bike was to have a large fat rear wheel, and a mod wheel works perfectly, now if we got a bmx wheel that would involve buying a new wheel and trying to get one as wide as the mod wheel which i already had. it would cost more money and the whole point of this was to spend as little as possible. Then it comes across to basically everyone as they don't work full stop. But it does, and we're only letting you now how..Anyway... Dan6061
Thinking about it, if you know a welder/can weld..you could move the mounts down a bit?Seeing as it's (probably) a steel frame?
Krisboats
Look you retard.Befor you say, AGAIN. Evo mounts dont work for V-Brakes, WHAT THE f**k DO YOU THINK EVO MOUNTS DO! THERE DESIGNED TO FIT V-BRAKE FITTING U RETARD! RUN THEM UPSIDE DOWN AND THEY WORK! IVE f**kING DONE IT!!!!Look at the pictures... if he ran them upside down the slaves would be pointed at the spokes. He didn't say they dont work for V-brakes, you put 2 and 2 together and came out with around 300, he said they dont work with this frame/rim combination. You sure you didnt run them upside down on a BMX with U Brake mounts? Can't you just use a bmx wheel and force the tyre onto that 20" rim? I'm sure you could find a local bmx that someone'd sell for like a tenner, or a budget BMX wheel off ebay.If not rewelding the current mounts further down should work. I'm guessing you've gotta file off the current V-brake mounts to get the whole drilled for the 4 bolt mounts, might be less work to get the current ones re-welded. Just a thought Edited October 12, 2006 by Krisboats

If you'd have said the evo mounts don't work becuase the wheel is smaller first off it would have saved alot of agruing. Befor you say, AGAIN. Onza Kieron
I'm just curious, before you go drilling, have you made sure the cranks will clear the floor, as in, spin freely?

That's the whole point.exactly! But I do want to see you make your design work so do that as i'm always up for a bit of custom goodnus! If we do end up doing it il post a new topic of il add to ths one with pics
