Hey,

Just wanted to know how to bleed your brake with one of these on. Know how to ptu them on, just don't know how to make 'em work. Tried the search, Pete Wright tells you how to whack it together, but not about bleeding in any sense.

Step by steps please! :D

*Would i have to have 2 of the same cylinders?*

just bleed ti from both cylinders closing one up after youve done and do the other, hose splitters are crap burton i had one for yonks howcome youve got one of them  . crossovers are much less hassle

all they do is make both brake pads move at the same time which they should do anyway if youve bled your brake right

biggest waste of money ever lol i hated mine :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Reet` This thread was the most recent about splitters, so I thought it would be easier to add to it. :-

Anyway.... I'm fitting a Monty splitter to solve the ever pain in the arse problem of one pad moving before the other.... in fact one pad `returning` before the other... that's my problem, kicking through the dragging pad etc!

Just about to get going when I thought.... do I need to fit a `bung bolt` in the other side of the caliper? As the other/original one is for.... ah` you get what I mean, I hope!

Crap pic! IPB Image

And when I bleed it in the bath-(love that method-NO chance of air!), should I just remove both bolts, pump lever etc?

PS:Anyone got a proper pic of what theirs looks like to compare hose lengths etc? And.......while I'm here, how about running the cable through gap/headgehog/seat thingy, then back though the hose holders near the headtube? I have a Trex etc.

Actually, that could be a pain if I wanna bleed it in the bath, then attach to my bike? H`mmm, whatever, but still yeah` run it through the seat-gap?

Cheers

PPS: If I'm being stupid.... it's late. :)

I know what you mean about the 'bung' You will need another normal Bolt, but thats easy to get hold of, just a normal really short M6 bolt.

The easy'st thing to do with the hose's is to cut the main hose about a crossovers length from the break caliper, then put the two ends you just created onto the splitter. Then, unscrew the crossover from the first slave (the one the main hose goes into) and replace it with the new second 'bung' and take out/cut off the barb as close as you can, attach this end to the other barb on the splitter. Then bleed the system through and you're done.

That Monty splitter will only help if you don't understand fluids. Basically, when you squeeze the lever, the pressure is distributed throughout the liquid evenly. So it's nothing to do with which pad the liquid "hits" first. And that's why Monty splitters are stupid.

Cheers bro!

FS: One un-used Monty splitter! :P

Nah` I know what you mean, it's just I don't fully release the brake/lever when kicking, and it's always rubbing on the `little` amount of tar I use on the rim. I'm gonna try it anyway....and I trust Tarty's/Montys advice. No `fence!

Next reply: "and that's why tar is stupid. ^_^
