North Korea Did The Nuclear Testing....

Its been a while since we had a serious subject in chit-chat ;)

Says in the papers everywhere that North Korea DID carry out its intended nuclear test, regardless of what the rest of the world said. Is this upstanding "arrogance" and consideration going to lead to futher, more rapid research, possibly even war?

Thoughts?

They may (or may not) be complete nutbags over there but what makes anyone think they have the right to prevent them from doing the tests?

the french got away with it fairly recently, nobody stopped the yanks in the 40s and I'm sure we've (UK) done our share of it too.

as to their motivation - pretty obvious really, they want a deterrent too.

The fear that everyone has I believe, is not that they will shoot a missile at anyone, but that they will sell a "Nuke" to a terrorist state/group.

The other problem that they have created for the surrounding countries (obviously not all of them) is that the countries are scrambling to access they're own "Nukes", for those who don't already have one, so that they can protect them selves. This has created a nuclear arms race just like the one between Russia and the USA during the cold war.

Matt.

Nuclear testing was banned in the 70's or something i believe, that would be the last time that the super powers + Britain would have exploded any. France being France had a play around in the 90's i think. the difference is that Britain, America, Russia and France are all pretty much stable nation states, North Korea however is not + aren't exactly subtle about wanting to invade South Korea. For that reason the thoguth of North Korea and Iran as well for that matter shits me up!

I'm far more worried about America possesing nuclear weapons than North Korea, there the ones who provide the greatest threat to the world.

Look at how many inocent people died in Iraq due to America's bombings. I bloody stupid we worry about all these countrys attacking us so we go and attack them before they have the chance, surely this makes us the biggest threat to the world not them.

this will make me sound an arsehole but...

isn't it better to threaten than be threatened?

if there's no other option Id rather be standing behind the bloke with the biggest stick than in front of him.

Makes you think about how close to the truth Matt and Trey were with Team America's portrayal of Kim Jong Il...

Anyone want to hazzard a guess at how long it'll be before good ol' George Dubbya wages war on North Korea?

Dave

My guess is that he'd been waiting until they did some nuclear testing. You can bet theres been a load of diplomatic 'I dare you' going on for a while there.

My main worry is now that most countries on both sides have nukes.

At first it was a detterent to stop another war, now all we need is for one trigger happy leader to fire one and then the whole world will get truely f**ked up.

Can't really say that North Korea is led by nice little angels now is it. They even ban outside world tv i think, and i'm also guessing that getting the southern bit back is probably on their agenda at some point.

I don't see how this is any different from the cold war - matey that ran russia (can't remember his name - begins with a K) during that period was as batshit as they come and he never hit the button.

just cos they're a funny colour doesn't make them any more mental

I agree with the fact that America are the biggest threat, then Tony forking blair has to get involved and goes along with whatever his bum bandit (George Bush wants) so each and every time America have a battle/war of some sort we look like twats too.

Kruschev? ;) Good old GCSE history!

My personal opinion is that there's very little I can do about it, so there's no point worrying. That's quite negative though, it's quite scary stuff.

I think that pretty much is what im thinking too pete. Fair enough, north korea probably wont send one this way, but as you said, its much more effective, "worthwhile" and generally easier to just bomb south korea. But that still effects us because Im sure I saw a panorama episode where they said another large nuke could turn the world into a permanent nuclear winter?

Im surprised at how serious people are at this which is good, but im also surprised no one has mentioned Deng yet.....

On the subject of North Korea going to claim back South Korea, i don't want to sound horrible but why should we get involved? We aren't the worlds police.

Well i was thinking mainly because the US has troops over there, and if the good old US of A get called in. Guess who will follow like an obedient doggie.

As long as he's still in power anyway.
