Half Link Chains

Greetings

Recommended Posts

I've been reading through various topics but there seems to be very little information on these chains. I need one badly as my current chain is going to snap any moment. It's stretched so much that I'll need a half link to be able to set my chain tension as it is now.

Money is not an issue, what chain would you recommend that is fairly durable (something between KMC and KHE) and where can I buy it? It's pretty hard to get hold of any half links let alone a good one...

I just installed the KMC 1/2 link chain (a nock off of the shadow) today.

It's probably half the price of the shadow and just as strong.

So far it works with no problems, and is great for making my stock a single speed with no tensioner.

Not sure where to get one, sorry.

Matt.

does the v2 need a special chain tool? i heard the v1 did...dont know why though

Not at all, for me. If you can fit a KMC you can fit the half link like i did. I have to say it is actually really easy to do. Instead of having to push the pin all the way through you just push it through one of the outer plates and then you push this plate downwards out the way and slide two ends of chain in opposite directions. Really fast.

Thank you people :D

Do you think this will fit a KHE chain?

Personally a chain is only as strong as the weakest link. So id just go for a full half link chain rather than mixing and matching.

ahh cheers man, thats cool then, im running a kmc on my bmx currently, but i fancy a change and its about time it was replaced :)

get the shadow though - the sexy shadow tin is more than worth the extra mooolah (you get three foam frisbees in it too (Y) )

my shadow's doing alright - i haven't had it long but i have used it for grinding on a fair bit and all appears to be well. it's outlasted my old kmc already .

For me it was because on my horizontal drop outs, the wheel all the way in would mean the brakes could be set up, however the chain would always be too slack. As in taking an extra link out the chain would be too tight to put together (half a links distance out). But if i pulled the wheel out to take up this slack if i hadnt have taken a link out then the brakes werent able to be set up, the cylinders would point downwards causing shit pad wear. So a half link chain just means you can adjust it that half distance.
