munkee
Proper bo i tell thee. Im guessing it would just be like a world cup style event? finally my parents will recognise trials as a real sport and not just me pissing around damaging stuff. Although since i started comps they dont give me as much agro as they used to over it.
mods
i remember you saying your parents were well harsh about it chris, but yea trials in the olympics would be really good, would do wonders for the sport.
TomR
Ive been searching BBC, ITV and the london2012 site, best it comes up with is 'mountainbiking' and 'BMX' but doesnt specify biketrials.
Tarquin
Allthough it would be great to beable to switch on the TV and have someome riding trials, I dont see how this would help the sport at all.All it will do is encourage more little chavs to get trials bikes for riding from A to B, so they can go round telling their mates they are pr0.I reckon it will also lower the standard of trials in general, as companies not into trials right now will end up making their own *poopy* versions of bikes, just like it happened to BMX. (Like the £60 special from JJB or something)Trials is a specialist sport, and has its own world. It needs to stay that way.
Krisboats
Trials IS an olympic sport though, the level of riding and dedication needed should pretty much guarantee it a place there. Now the publicity and general interest is coming about i think we'll be seeing more of this kind of thing cropping up... i mean i went out on the piss last night and martyn ashton was on the tv's there doing that animal demo with fielder, and thats just a local scream bar in town. Made me do a double take at the tele thats for sure

mods
i dissagree.. i think it would support the sport and possible draw money into the sport, as well as more interest by the youngsters.
munkee
Yeap end of the day who gives a crap about whether a pile of chavs start riding or not. Not generalising here but who actually thinks that A) they will be able to afford the parts They will be dedicated enough to actually get good C) Who on here cares at all, trials is a solo sport meaning the only way someone gets good is through their own body and mind doing the moves. Trials isnt a team sport as for example football. Where 10 players can play amazing but 1 doesnt who might happen to be the goal keep and lets in every half hearted attempt shot at him. This makes the whole team look like shit on paper, but with trials.. its one persons dedication which shows in the riding.
ollie2000
Chavs will probly nick the parts then put the on wrong or buy a new brake cable for a maggie and buy a cheap cable for a v brakeI have seen trials on extreme sports it was on new zealand tour and i saw a bit on a aaron chase tour vid which was on extreme sports channel

Not only would it give us trials riders the satisfaction of our sport actually going somewhere, but, like Chris said about his parents, it will help the general public appreciate it more.I can't wait to hear more about this... Cheers,Joe. Edited October 6, 2006 by joe b
Rich Pearson
I'm not really bothered if a thousand little kids decide to get into bike trials because of this, I care because it will make people take US more seriously. Town councils will HAVE to invest in trials parks, companies will get more attention and more revenue and will then possibly be able to lower their prices, and of course, the little old bint who always yells at me in the high street can finally be told to go to hell good and proper when I say, "Actually, this is an Olympic sport, so die."Roll on 2012.Rich.P.S. Still think the olympics is a ridiculous waste of money and the benefits of it are grossly outwieghed by the debts it creates, but meh, go biketrials! Woo! Wooooooooooooooooooo! yoyoyo
Only problem is... in 6 years half of us will either be too crippled to ride or have stiff joints and stuff.Another problem i can think of is how i can imagine it will all be natural comp style. Which won't attract as many people as say a more street orientated style would.Sure the councils and police will take us more seriously, but look how big bmx is, yet the closest bmx thing to me is a dirt jump track 9 miles away.Oh well, at least i have 6 years to get good. So i stand out from all the people who start out.But it will be good for the sport if it gets on.

TomR
I agree with a fair few points in here, but kinda mixed. If chavs get trials bike theyll realise how hard it is and give up. Plus you can't sit down on it outside tescos smoking a fag to look cool because theres no seat. But the possibility of more competitions, trials parks, general recognition is bloody good IMO.And with blue peter doing its little bit, its obviously seen as a good productive thing to do. But BP encourage it, and we still get looked at like criminals when we ride Maybe thats why BP featured it?

I mean most people can get backhopping in about 1/2weeks and most ''chavs'' will find that impressive, and continue doing it?

TomR
But could you keep backhopping and doing endo's constantly without getting bored? And i do that too, i was watching a video and someone did a big gap and rode down a set of stairs just to complete the move, but to alot of people riding down the steps would be a 'trick' in itself yet it wouldnt occur to most of us. Maybe the slant was sports that arn't in the Olympics, but should be.Anyway, Biketrials is not going to be an Olympic sport any time soon. There's sports much bigger than ours that are actively lobbying the IOC to be included, and because of the size of the event, when one sport or event comes in, another gets booted out.If I remember correctly BMX racing is in, and the flying kilometre on the velodrome is out.So BMX riding - trick riding - trials.... Did they actually use the term trials?
