newb
Rim grinding is when you take an angle grinder to your rim because the rim is then rough it helps your braking powerTar is Tar, the stuff on roads and sort of rubbed on your rim sothat also increases your breaing poweri dont know to much myself but could someone explain to me what isis is? would be greatful. lew
Wright Pads
Tar is bitumen, made form crude oil in a disatalierySuper hard material, warm it up and run on your rims in a line or dotsGrind is far better where you roughten up the surafce which gives a high friction coating
Ben Beckett
oh my god, this sort of topic should be in the 'random small questions' thread. a rim grind is where you grind your rim.....hense the name, this is done by putting a grinder against the brake surface and grinding away the smoothness!!;here are a few pics..http://82.110.105.16/tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?id=145tar is shit do not use tar.........any way tar is stuff they put on tarmac (or somthing to do with roads, i don't no cuz i'm not a road surfacer....thankgod!!) trials riders put a little amount on their rims to improve braking!, thay have a block of tar and just rub it on,........ the rim looks really shit now with black lines all over it, plus a lot of the time your brakes just stick!! matt!
basically there both to do with your breaking performance, number one the rim grind, it is mainly for your pads to have a better bite so your brake becomes loud and more posotive when you pull the lever in, two tar is mainly used on a smooth rim or light grind, this is so your pads have something to stick to when you pull your lever in, tar is a very good thing to have handy with you at all times and may i add tar is not shit as said above, strongly disagree, although it dose built up crap on your pads, but it is easly clean of with red hot water, and a light sandpaper over the pad, but as long as you dont paint your rim black with your tar, you will be fine, and your brake will not stick...... matt!
i run tar and my brake dont lock/stickit does make the rim look crap.its either your rim looking crap (if you put to much on) or you not falling of your bike.. whats it to be.......i should think you already know the answear. you only have to use a bit of tar at a time, you dont have to put it on your rim like its going out a fashion, beacuse its not... RobinJI
could someone explain to me what isis is? would be greatful. lewISIS is an International Standard of crank spline, It uses 10 very slightly tapered splines. While a lot stiffer and stronger than Square taper, it suffers from problems with bearing life, due to the enlarged size of the spindle not leaving enough room for bearings. So now riders have a choice; weak axle, or weak bearings. So at the end of the day I'd always say that if you're light/smooth enough to get away with square taper, it'll cost you a lot less in the long run.The only ISIS bottom brackets I think are worth looking at at the moment are the SKF's that can be found on tarty along with other places. PaRtZ
The only ISIS bottom brackets I think are worth looking at at the moment are the SKF's that can be found on *blatant advertising removed*yeah and the gigapipes.....and the plantinum pro's..... and all those trials specific BB's Pretty much any bb that works is worth it. I've run a £12 bb and it lasted ages until the axle chamfered slightly too much but still lasted about 9-12 months
RobinJI
Dude, just my opinion, I just don't like replacing bits loads when you could have had one that cost twice the price of the cheep one, but lasted 4 times as long. Also I have no link with tarty bikes at all was just trying to give him an example of somware he could buy one from, could look through the list of dealers on the Pace website but thought that would be a bit over the top, as he didnt actualy express any interest in buying one.As far as cheep BBs go, I love them, in Octalink and square taper, but ISIS just wear out so quickly its stupid.
