PaRtZ
OK Bare in mind the following my question is simply how much per hour would you be prepared to pay to use a trials park.1) Insurance would be through the roof as it is2) Rent of the building3) Lighting, heating etc.4) The more you pay the more likely the park would continueThis is all 100% hypothetical, im just interested to see what peoples answers are likeThanks
Sam Nichols
Realistically I don't think it is feasible to run a trials park to break even. Basically taking in to account all the factors you mentioned and then the added problem of demand.. You're looking at a a project that is financially unworkable. Think about it, how many people a day are you going to get going to it.. Probably only people from the surrounding area during weeknights.. Then people might train it down from further away at the weekend? This won't work really. The only way a project such as this is conceivable is if it is government/privately funded. For example, we used to have an old B&Q building that a company called COMPROP gave to us rent free to use as a skatepark and the building was covered by their insurance.. but obviously and injuries caused by stunts etc wasn't covered. The local states [government to non Guernsey folk] didn't make us pay rates [water, electricity etc]
anzo
I think by the hour would be a bit too much in any case. Day tickets/Season tickets ect would be good.No one is going to want to ride in a building and pay per hour when they can ride outside for free...they would for a few months but it would die off.I'd say about £5 for the day, assuming some competition would be in place? Otherwise about £3 for practice.
Dan6061
Depends on the size of it, the location, the facilities there..But £5 - £10 a day would be alright....
TomR
I think a better approash would be through the council, but they get very funny about health and safety and tend to ignore anyones opinion that isnt their own.I'd happily pay a fiver for a days riding in there if it was good enough with enough differing areas. STEVE-0
What would be better is just to introduce trials obstacles at a skate park that everyone can use, e.g. rails, walls at different heights, widths, shapes and spaces aparts etc...If this could be incorparated into a skate park it would be do-able.I dont really care about parks though, and anyway it would be one less excuse for riding street and i couldn't wear my 'strictly not 4 skate parks' t-shirt Steve
JT!
Would it need to be heated?
Adrian
as long as its indoors after a few mins of ridding you'll be sweatin your nuts off, i dont think youll need heating, and if you where gonna make a trials park then make it some where more cental, like oxfordshire...london?? not somewhere like cornwall, scotland kent and stupid places like that because then onle a few people could make it... cheers... adrian
Brian Bleech
Maybe £3 for a couple of hours and then £7 - £10 for all day! Would you pay membership to it? I know the works skatepark in Leeds is £20 for a year and then a few quid for when you go in, I think this helps with insurance! The trials park would have to offer a wide varity of things to ride so it doesn’t get boring (maybe it could be possible for some of the object to be moveable, probably just by staff though) so then it could be kinda changed round a every month or so!Also if it could offer something unique to ride on, maybe something north shore – eqse but more trialsy! See Kranked 6 I think, with Ryan Leechs north shore trail.
CurtisRider
check skateparks entrance fees for comparisons, like, my local indoor park is 6quid a day, which i think is very resonable for such a good park
Orgun_Donor
Probably about £10 for the day, obviously depending on what there is to ride, and where it is. But then i would hardly ride it.

Also a small bike shop, with tools and most things that you would/could repair on a ride – brake bits, bars, cable, spokes, disk rotors, bolts and bits. Possible even in conjunction with another bike shop!
PaRtZ
Well i have two thoughts about a trials park idea. I've noticed a lot of skate parks are essentially a skate shop with a skatepark behind them? so i mean if you have a shop + a park as well you're going to generate a bit more doshThe other idea was to try and combine two or more sports together, such as bmx + trials but then theres the problem of actually doing it as bmx and trials are so different. Gap to grind rails is fair enoug easy, but everything else is a slight problemIm just trying to shed some light on this topic because don't deny it, its our dreams to have a proper place to ride trials in the UK. Away from cops, old biddies etc. Im starting to get annoyed at the public's view so i just want to do something differentI was thinking maybe the place could have a different layout each day/week to add more variety But maybe when im at the right stage of my life i might put this plan in motion
mods
adding trials areas or sections in existing parks. would be far more economical. No-one will finance a dedicated trials park. However if tarty bikes opened one with a shop i bet that would do very well! hint hint. Maybe when the sport has grown further we may see some parks crop uo

Jonny Jones
Yeah Council funding is prob more realistic... but then there was meant to be a park being built near the sk8 park in Woking and nothing happened, even after Adrian Jordan and co's hard work on meeting with them and sharing ideas and designs. Ive said to people as soon as I have around a million pounds haha id invest in a warehouse and build a park. Whats the likeliness of that happening though! J. PaRtZ
ok if i want to ask the council should I write, email, phone, pay visit in person? We have a (poor) skate park here and masses of un-used land which would be mint for trials parks

J.Currently, the city council of Cambridge is quite interested in designing a trials/bmx park... they are very keen and have some money to spend on a patch of land... I'll be submitting some zone ideas for their next meeting... Everything is still very uncertain and vague, and it may take some time because there is a lot of bureaucracy, but I'll keep you posted if there is some progress...
