IDE PATA ATA are the same mate, go use you windows xp, it'll tell you!

''Storage of data is getting smaller, Samsung flash drivers are now hitting shops here and i've got 3 to test in raid 5-o-1 on my scsi rig!''

Thats what i said yeah! 3 drivers, 40GB each, Raid 5, O, 1 are what i'm testing them in config and on my rig i use SCSI on as i have been asked too, the Cloverdale rig has such a high note FSB we need see if the flash drives cop and the ICH8 SB with it all.

I only do as to what i'm asked to do by work okay Darren!

Flash drives are new out, Samsung are the only ones pushing the ES side of it right now!

Pop round you can see them in action!

To fully show what it is and not here is the info taken from my manual for the new SCSI Raid card i've got.

RAID-0 is the fastest and most efficient array type but offers no fault-tolerance.

RAID-1 is the array of choice for performance-critical, fault-tolerant environments. In addition, RAID-1 is the only choice for fault-tolerance if no more than two drives are desired.

RAID-2 is seldom used today since ECC is embedded in almost all modern disk drives.

RAID-3 can be used in data intensive or single-user environments which access long sequential records to speed up data transfer. However,

RAID-3 does not allow multiple I/O operations to be overlapped and requires synchronized-spindle drives in order to avoid performance degradation with short records.

RAID-4 offers no advantages over RAID-5 and does not support multiple simultaneous write operations.

RAID-5 is the best choice in multi-user environments which are not write performance sensitive. However, at least three, and more typically five drives are required for RAID-5 arrays.

Is it getting too technical yet?

I've lost the pic of the waterbottle RAID setup, it makes thing a lot clearer to see

The 3 Samsung Flash drives? That what you mean, well there 40Gb each.

They don't go up in size in Raid, it see's them there but not more than there size per say a 1x 120gb is not 240GB but 120GB.

Raid just spains your data over two or more HD's making acessing and writing data dam fast pending the setup and drive's.

No if you re-read i'm saying Raid does not add all your drives up and make them one size, it's the size that they are.

So Raid 0 with 2 40Gb is not 80GB but 40Gb and same with any other Raid array.

The Raid i'm running tests on is Raid 5, O, 1 okay not anyhting eles!

40Gb Darren thats all

Well thats completely wrong, with raid 0, 2 hard drives with 40gb space would give you a total space of 80GB not 40GB as you think

On a side note: "anit virus if your smart enough to have any at all"

I think it should read "smart people don't need anti virus"

I've never used anti virus software, and I never get dodgy crap on my pc.

Anti Virus is for people that browse russian porn sites and download Arctic Monkeys off Kazaa.

Well to behonest you only really get dodgy stuff from browsing dodgy things, and using dodgy programs, or opening obviously infected e-mails. Aslong as your unit is completely upto date with all the updates from microsoft you should be alright.

Although i would always recommend running an have
