'Music Of Black Origin' - MOBO.

So then, We have the MOBO's, But why is there no 'Music Of White Origin' awards?

Could this not be seen as rascism? The Brit awards and MTV music awards, They have both black and white race involved, Then you have the MOBO's - All black people, Presenters and people up for awards.

Im not being rascist, I don't have a problem with black people, Unless they have a problem with me, and i like artists such as Kano, Lethal B, Wiley etc.....But i also like alot of white artists too.

So why is there no White only music awards? Are white people too shit to have there own music awards?

Discuss.

Theres a charitable organisation around here that's a 'asian sports club'. I mean what the hell, there would be so much uproar if I started up a 'northern european sports club'.

I totally see your point, but at the same time I think it would be better to scrap the Black Origin awards, rather than start up separate 'White' and 'Black' awards, which further the notion that it is what is on the outside rather than what is on the inside that counts.

God that sounded a bit serious!!

It's music of black origin, you dont have to be black to win it. Pretty much all forms of music originated from there. Western classical music is about the only form of music that didnt that i can think of.

Rock music is an evoloution of various "black" music forms, RnB is too, as is most western pop shite.

I dont see how it's racist, you cant deny that pretty much all modern music is of black origin.

I asked my old media teacher about this, he said everything other than urban/garage/hip hop (whatever is featured in the Mobos) is music of white origin.

Which i can kinda see. Either way, whatever.

It depends how far you want to go back really and how much "black" influence makes it "black" music.

IMO the only genre of music that has not really had major influences from black sources is classical,

many of the popular genres today have evolved from jazz, folk music, that kind of thing.

I admit Rock and Roll was hugely inspired by early black R&b and soul, but surely the rock genre is pretty much of white origin?

Yeah, i think modern rock probably is mainly "white", as it has evolved on from the original rock n roll, particularly stuff like metal.

Quite a difficult subject really, as original rock n roll also evolved from american country music.

It's not really something a definate answer can be given to i think.

I think theres still to much segrigation going on.

I mean, it was white people doing the segrigating in the first place. Now its flipped over.

You get the mobo's (o.k music of black ORIGIN but still there is a point)

Ethnic only schools, you try and get the white and ethnic comunitys to intergrate and someone does this, is this really the future for children?

Extreme_biker0 said about the "asian sports club" yet again, same thing.

The fact that black comunitys are grouping up into self made "getthos" rather than intergrating.

Theres so many more examples.

I wish people would just think sometimes.

That is true, but irrelevent. I mean, what is their problem with people who are not of the same race/religeon? To the point where they feel they should start an organisation that only permits these people. It's wrong, and encourages racism.

Racism is a two way steet, and a very sensitive issue. Only it seems we (white british-born people) are the only ones tip-toeing around what is a very sensitive issue. Muslims, etc, should be doing what they can too to create a culturally diverse society where everyone gets along, and starting these 'this race only' clubs is not the right way to go about it.

I feel thats a load of crap about rock (as a example) coming from black origin. How are you supporting that? Im pretty sure Razorlight/Kooks/Actic monkeys etc etc didnt sit down and think hmmm, I really like marvin gaye so my music will be like his. In what way does a current rock song relate to a black origin?

Yeh at the end of the day, the first music (if we wanna go and get all anal about this shit) was the earliest humans tapping rocks together in some sort of rhythm.

Were the earliest humans black or white?

I think it depends on what you call the earliest forms of music.

I actually learnt about this last week at college.

Basically, nearly all modern rock music stems from blues, using similar rhyme patterns and structure etc. Even super death metal and everything, at some point stemmed from blues, which is a black genre.

Any of the genres coming from country are also blues influenced.

Ska comes from Reggae which is Jamacian and therefore black.

My music college tutor reckons the only two genres not originating from black music are classical and punk.

punk = punk rock = rock n roll = jazz/blues = brown fellas

apart from that - and ska being around before reggae I agree

Nah, punk was it's own thing that didn't really stem from rock, apparantly.

I'm just going by what he says, he's been in the music business for 20 years or so and has been teaching the origins of modern music for years and years, so I guess he knows his shit.

On a related note, Jazz comes from prostitution, they used to give black slaves instruments to entertain the clients in brothels before they got their action, and thats where jazz was formed.

Amazing what incredibly useless facts you learn at college :P
