eskimo
I so want a stock bike now but hate the fact of tensioners of all kinds.I wondered have many of you managed to set up a stock drive chain with just say a eno and fixed sprocket? If so how does it work and what setup you running? frame, gearing etcI was maybe thinking of one of the mod 26"ers.[EDIT] A left hand tensioner? I couldn't find anything. I would of thought it was a common idea? Edited September 26, 2006 by eskimo

RobinJI
18T-15T when chain is tight chain stays need to be 379mm18T-16T when chain is tight chain stays need to be 375mm20T-17T when chain is tight chain stays need to be 379mm22T-18T when chain is tight chain stays need to be 381mm22T-19T when chain is tight chain stays need to be 379mmThats what BT say about chain lengths, and it all seems to check out so with 380 or 375mm stays theres a few options of gears you could run, any that need a CS length of 379 if you just let you're chain stretch a little then it'll work with 380s obviosly. One of my mates runs mis ashton with 20-17, and now he'd be fine without his tensioner with about one month old chain. justfuzzit
you could always try the eno eccentric hub but It seems to slip on people. I bet you could score it or something to make it stay still.
Orgun_Donor
Could always get a 24Seven Holroyd or a new Stockmod, from Zoo or Echo. Horizontal dropouts, so no need for a hanger, and also 116mm rear spacing, means it runs on mod hubs.
Greetings
Got it spot on on the current setup:Adamant A1 short (372mm chainstays)18T chainring front18T chainring rearKMC Cool Chain (the bmx spacing one)This chain is very badly stretched although it hasn't been used too much. Get a KHE if you really want to make sure you won't have to run a tensioner after a few hours of riding a new chain. They barely stretch (mine has an extra 1mm after using it over a period of 16 months).Other than that, you might want to look in here:My topic on chain tensionVery very small and light tensioner I made for my old echo frameGood luck! Bionic Balls
you may have it perfect....but no one else would want that ratio!! (1:1??...what are you thinking?)you say that 18-16 would work with 375mm stays...but i still need a tensioner on mine adam

The guy asks a straight question so he gets a straight answer and I couldn't give a shit about you thinking it's impossible to ride a 1:1 ratio. It's perfect for me. I thought it was hard already but 1:1. I bet it's quite wierd still. How to you find certain things?

How to you find certain things? It is hard to get anywhere, but then that's nothing new As far as moves are concerned, everything but gaps is easier. I could do 8ft on my old ratio, now only 7ft. But then it's also the fault of a high bb. Riding such a ratio boils down to body movement and technique. If you're into power moves it'll only make your riding worse. Shorter run ups = better. You can very often do a full stroke from the same distance as you'd do a half stroke on 18:15.
