Greetings
Yes, I know there was a topic like this a while ago. So, I've got a guy from Lithuania who wants to buy some parts from me. It's a bit fishy because these parts are worth almost as much as payment costs and carriage. He wants to pay by Western Union. I read in an old thread about this system that it's not safe. Why not, and what can I do to make it safe? Obviously I'll be getting the money before I send stuff which kind of eliminates all the risks? I'd normally do no fuss about this but it's kind of odd that somebody is paying 12 euro for the brake, 12 euro for carriage, and another 10 euro for payment. You mean he payed the guy for the bike and didn't get it? But once I've got the money in my hand, what can go wrong?

Walleee
You mean he payed the guy for the bike and didn't get it? But once I've got the money in my hand, what can go wrong?Yep, he paid and then the ebay auction disappeard, seller stopped all contact and nothing could be done, the seller claimed the company was going into liquidation. It was a friends brother, and as soon as my mate said western Union, I said 'tell him not to do it' by that time it was too late, and the money had been taken. Once the money is in your hand, nothing can go wrong, why can't he pay by paypal, or send cash? I see where you are coming from, but anytime I hear western Union I just think 'f**k that, not worth the risk.' If he can pay by western union, he has the money to send cash, if he doesnt want to do that, someone else will buy your parts. The way I see it, If you are asking about it, then you don't know enough to protect yourself, not in a cheeky way or anything, i hope you understand??? Onza Kieron
http://scams.flipshark.com/westernunion.html!Makes some sense?
Extreme_biker0
Do none of you understand that Inur is the SELLER not the buyer. Therefore if he receives the money first, where is the risk?I cannot forsee one, but that doesn't mean that there isn't one. I'm sure if there is though, google will have information. nmt_oli
The money will go into the account, but the bank will realise its actually stolen/from a fake cheque or something after about a week, and take the money back- which they are allowed to do.bascially the buying scammer uses a fake cheque for western union that take a while to sort out, you have the money already transfered by this point so you send the goods, then the bank finds 'oh, this cheque appears to be fake', contacts the english bank and goes give us our money back. Greetings
The way I see it, If you are asking about it, then you don't know enough to protect yourself, not in a cheeky way or anything, i hope you understand???I thought I didn't. It just seems that WU is the choice of scammers and is unsafe for the buyer, not the seller. So as a matter of fact, the system itself is fine if you know who your sending the money to. And again, it looks like the fault is purely on the side of naive people who send money to scammers. So in my case all should be well. He's probably buying a few other parts off me which I've been trying to sell for ages, so all the better.Takling of PayPal, in this part of Europe the accounts are send only, so he can send me the money, but I can't recieve it.Wrote this 2 hours ago and forgot to post. As Alex wrote, it has nothing to do with banks - you give them the MTN, your ID and they give you the money in cash. They can also pay it into your account if you're collecting the money in a bank, but that has nothing to do with WU.
