Another alternative is to burn VCDs, not SVCDs, which is a standard feature in nero.

These are cd's, which will play in any dvd player made in this millenium, and will hold about 3 ep's per disk/disc.

The episodes, depending on what they are will be utterly poor quality though. Not to mention the compatibility of the players being an issue, my dads £30 sony player from asda doesnt play vcd's or svcd's

If you have a DVD-Rewriter fitted to your pc you can either pick up a copy of nero 7 ultra off ebay for around £4 or illegally download it for free and have the weight of doing something wrong bearing down on your conscience :P

If you already have nero 6 though add me to msn and i can give you a hand with sorting it out for you.

EDIT: Just seen your post, the series will be a larger size when you import them to make them compatible for use on dvd players however if your only going to have them as like a dvd data disc so they just work on your pc then yes they will fit.

Lee, its the same as putting MP3's on a cd, you can fit (for arguments sake) 100, but if you want them in a format that a normal audio cd player can understand (cda) you can only fit (arguments sake) 15.

Your best bet is to burn the episodes onto a dvd in the same format theyre in, you wont be able to watch them on a household dvd player but you can allways view them from your pc again or load them back onto it.

If you burned all 5 series, 4 per disc it would probably cost more in dvd's than it would to buy the box sets.

what with DVD's being like 20p each ?

Do it - it will take time as nero has to re-encode them then burn them - but its worth it (maybe - if you dont just plug your pc into your telly).

Apart from the fact its like £9 for 50 DVD-R's so you get 10 discs per series and if you can fit 4 40 minute episodes onto a disc you get 40 episodes worth of space per every ten discs, the average tv-series is between 20 and 25 episodes so there'll be some discs left over still.

For £9 i doubt you could buy the box sets for 5 series of tv show, unless its a really old show that might be going cheap on ebay.

Add me to msn, i'll get your nero working with dvd discs.

Right dude, you are worrying about it fitting onto the the disc, if so you use shirnk 3.2, it sort of smallens the filesize abit without loosing any quality, i have mounted shrink with alcohol 120% and then mounted it with nero to burn, it is pritty simple really mate once you have doen it a few times and got the hang of it.

dan.

well I have no idea what your talking about, but I did like the Word Alcohol.

Im gunna try using Main Concept, and TMPG DVD author as advised by a friend who makes his own with menus and shit.

If that fails Ill speak to Krisboats about it, as he seems to know what he is on about.

Ta muchley

The simple answer....

If you have Nero 7 (if not, download it..)

Open up nero smart start.

Select DVD from the drop down menu at the top. Go to the photo/video icon and select 'Make your own DVD video'.

This will open up nero vision (as mentioned earlier in the thread).

Add your videos.

Click next a few times, follow the steps.

It'll recode the video files into DVD format, and burn it for you. Sorted.

OK tomturd I see your pont.

But, will it let me play them on a Normal run of the mill DVD player?

And how many episodes will I average per disc?

There must be a method of sticking a whole series on DVD, otherwise how would the proper ones be done?

Ive just had a quick go on Mainconcept, a encoder programe.

1 episode in DVD format is 1.23GB

not looking good.

at a guess on a 120 min dvd , youll get on a dvd in dvd format 120 minutes(add a couple of extra minutes for finalizing etc)

the movies you get which are super long, barely ever exceed 4 hours a disk, so youll never fit a whole series on one disc, when you buy a season 1 boxset, its a set in a box, normally comprising 3 - 7 dvds with about 4 episodes per disc, which is wat id be hoping for on yours, which youd just achieve, 4 episodes per disk, its only 6 dvds at the end of the day)

Normally the disks are dual layer disks, thats why dvd shrink is required for ripping, to make it fit onto one disk, If your dvd is fairly posh, then it'll burn dual layer disks, Then there like...basically what it says on the tin, double sided. thats how they get a entire series on there.

Sounds about right. When I was burning Lost episodes, I could get 4 episodes per DVD. On my computer they were just under 400mb each.

Your only alternative is to connect your computer to your TV, and watch them that way. Or to buy a Divx/Mpeg DVD Player - you can just dump all the TV epidoes onto a DVD-R (without convesion) and watch them using one of them.

I see now, its all srarting to make sence.

so far im looking at 6 discs per series.

Will that DVD shrink dealy allow more, but still allow playback through a normal DVD player?

Is there any way of finding out what other formats a player can read? Should I try and find the Box incase its written on it?

Um, the only way DVD shrink will shrink them more, is if you burn them to a DVD first (or atleast convert the files to DVD compaible ones) and then shrink those... a long winded process, and you'll lose video quality in the process.

If your DVD player plays divx files, it'll most likely say on the front.

I know it wont play DIVX, but I have a feeling it may play other formats.

But damned if I know what.

If I could get that, I could burn them in a smaller format and save some space.

Transfering them all to DVD format them burning 6 discs per series is gunna take a hell of alot of time, and hard drive space.

Oh, by the way, its Scrubs
