sir trial a lot
Right, on the 21st ill be 16, and im really wanting a mode of transport. The parents are not keen on me getting out on the roads on a scooter but i feel that if i come up with some figures they may be swayed (hopefully). So im looking for a few answers. Scooter. ovbiously got to be 50cc, and restricted to 30mph or whatever it is but what is a good one? I know everything about bikes etc so i dont mint maintanence but dont want one falling to bits on me.Ill need a road legal helmet etc i know.CBT training? How much?Insurence, again, how much?i think thats it, but all details etc are much appreciated.Cheers
Fish-Finger-er
never owned a scooter, but did cbt, cost me 75 quid, should imagine anywhere between 60-120 depending on wer u live/time u want it etc. as for ped insurance, for a basic 50cc ped round my end, all the people i knew with them, seemed to be payin about 100 third party fire an theft, but if your not in the sticks, may go up considerably
minitrialer
i found it for about 300.(insurance that is) I would get a geared bike if i was you. so much more fun and more control. Twist and goes are for grannies and trannies.Proper cheap to run as well 50cc things, so make the most of it before you get a car! As for bikes ( geared ones)Suzuki TS50 ( i had one of those, was alright, pretty good condition started well etc. )Apprillia rs50 or rx50 one if offroad (ish) one is onroad.Derbi sender yamaha dt50 i think thats what it's calledYou can also do slight things to them like different gear ratios bigger cogs new exhausts and get them de-restricted. It's illegal but most people do it, on your shoulders be it basically. You can then get about 40-55ish out of them. Depending on which bike etc etc Some maybe even quicker than that. Some people also bore them out to a 70cc etc as well. So yer basically, have a look on ebay as well.
Gavyn.
i just got my scooter it's a honda x8rs de restricted (illegal i know but ) it cost me 150quid however my insurance is 256 quid and to do my cbt including renting a scooter for the day will cost me 100 quid as far scooters go the more wrecked they look the better they are (to an extent)also ^^^^^^^ rs 50s are alright but expensive and a bitch to insure derbi's need new piston rings every 5 minutes suzuki's are alreet but are quite hard to come across and dt 50s are pretty expensive best off just getting a scooter till your 17 then get a car and sell the scooter or upgrade to a 125cc Edited September 16, 2006 by Gavyn L
tank_rider
You do need some serious help if your considering getting a scooter. I recommend a shrink.
BONGO
please mate wait one more year. Scooters are a waste of money but regardless of money they are sooooo dangerous.Cars don't see bikes. and bikers are f**ked if a car hits them obviously. Just wait pleeeeease! sir trial a lot
the parents have plain and simply said no i suppose ive got a good excuse for getting them to take me places now plus when i think about it properly, the only times i really go far are when im goin out with the zoo or gas gas, which scooters arent really made to carry so basically, no scooter for me. But ill be getting driving lessons for my 17th birthday, just 1 year and 4 days untill im on the roads. hehe

Jaffacakes
Ped's are pretty fun though. We took our's camping in the summer and pitched a tent in a campsite a few hours away from home.My mate slapped it to f**k the otherday on his though. He ended up smashing his new ped up, doing in the panels on the car and ended up sitting inside the smashed windscreen I'll try to get some pics up.If you ever get one dont get a new one and dont get a shit one. Get an Aprilia or something.
Dai the Socket
please mate wait one more year. Scooters are a waste of money but regardless of money they are sooooo dangerous.Cars don't see bikes. and bikers are f**ked if a car hits them obviously. Just wait pleeeeease!True. But it does make you a better rider / driver Just gotta be careful, and the tests are really difficult to pass. I was in your position nearly 2 years ago but I just waited, and now I've got a 600cc Suzuki Bandit which I really like. It's good being able to drive a car sometimes though. Don't choose a motorbike 'cos you can get one sooner, wait for a car if you want one, or a proper motorbike. If the 0-60 is slower than 4.5 seconds, it's a scooter lol.
