lawrence osborn
Hey,It was just in my mind what people prefer, i prefer a front disk as i feel you have more control with it, but you may feel different about it which one do you prefer disk or maggie and why? Lee Cable
I prefer my disk brake, as it helps for gap to fronts as it has a little modulation!
spode@thinkbikes
Ditto. And for the back.(Christ - not another thread where Spode's promoting KOT MS2s and Hope Dual Discs??? Jeez, get a life!!)
Bigman
Disc on the front is the only Sane option realy Ditto. And for the back.(Christ - not another thread where Spode's promoting KOT MS2s and Hope Dual Discs??? AdamR28
I might as well continue the bumming... Mine's great too But for the front, I personally reckon you can't beat a good disc. Certain riders will prefer HS33s/rim brakes simply because of missed sidehop reasons though.
Brian Bleech
vee ... but hope disks are very nice, but I would break them!
Krisboats
Front disc all the way. It just feels much nicer, is far stronger than my magura ever was and it lets me do rolling nose endo very easily. The pads are also a lot cheaper too, especially now someones selling brand new original avid pads on ebay, my set cost me £4.
OD404
Though I've not used a Magura on the front for a good five years now, my Avid BB7 suits my needs perfectly so I haven't felt the need to experiment with alternatives. With the recent pad advances I would imagine that a Magura would easily rival a disc in terms of bite and power, but I'm not convinced there would be much modulation. And for that reason I will be sticking with my disc
Sam Nichols
I've gone for disc purely because Maguras hate me. I never have any luck with them. My bike is full vee, but meh, if I wanted to strap something heavy and high maintenance to my bike it would be a disc.
Guest
I use a magura, but want a disk. Im sick of both my breaks being noisey as f**k, I just can't ride in populated areas. Also, there is no modulation unless you use shite pads, in which case there is no bite.....
Sam Nichols
Modulate with your finger? It's not hard..
spode@thinkbikes
Modulate with your finger? It's not hard..It tends to "judder" instead when you try and modulate a rim brake.I can't stand the sound of rim brakes and it really doesn't us any favours. Guest
Modulate with your finger? It's not hard..Tell you what, you come over here and try and modulate heatsink blue pads. If it wasn't that hard I would be doing it.
Synergy
i like two maguras because it does feel lighter also it feels that you can freewheel further (i know not the case if you set disc up right)i use an avid bb7 on the front its lethal its brilliant for natty but cant go wrong with two maguras for street. Mark W
I used to love my Plaz CRMs up front with a dead grind. Locked nicely, but it was still easy to modulate. Running an Avid BB7 now, had 203mm which was amazing and I've got 160mm now which is still pretty f**kin' rad. I think overall I'd prefer front disc still just 'cos of the silent stopping. Just so nice being able to ride as fast as you want without making people shit themselves when you stop near them.

Mark W
Mix it up a bit then, foo' Turn your foot 90°, and use the heel bit of it to brake. Shoes last longer!

Just bear in mind with discs, especially the BB7s, it really is down to how you set it up. With my Avid, if I set it up so one pad is nearer the disc, it modulates really well but doesn't have much instant lock. If I do it the other way, there's still modulation but it locks up a lot faster. Just make sure you play around with it to dial in the feel you want. Oh, and don't use shit cables and shit cable cutters
