Odinpalen
Hey guys I have been doing trials for about 3 - 4 months. Everything has been good. I have gone through the normal injuries like wrist and shin scrapes.Has anybody every had really sore lower back combines with really sore hips. I think I have been training too much. One morning I woke up and I can barely walk or bend over. I rest a few days and try to ride and it gets worse. I did not have any bails to link this soreness too???I hope I am not alone, this could be a much larger issue.

JonCongreve
I don't realllly get strained muscles or anything....just aching knees every now and again.Went over the handlebars the other day when a pallet snapped (that i was going from ) and i've really hurt my foot and elbows .I also have 6 stiches in my mouth from a few months ago, and 2 loose teeth still
Mark W
If your knees start really giving you grief, just get some glucosamine sulphate tablets down you! Good shit, 1 tablet 3 times a day = I can bend my knees That and hardly ever riding trials
Dan-Gadd
Get your self some cod liver oil tablets! "they keep your joints supple, and flexible" according to the boots packet. Dan
A!!
I have really dodgy knees as well. It is everytime i put some pressure on it, it feels really sore and tender inside my knee and i have started to notice it more when i have been riding bmx stuff. I did hit my knee cap pretty bad a while ago, falling off my motorbike, but i'm not sure if that is what caused it. And i can't really squat down properly either, as when it comes to standing up i have to push up with my right leg to avoid hurting my left. I have tried drinking more water, and i have been taking multivitamins and cod liver oil daily, but i still seem get it
Mark W
Yep, I tried cod liver oil too and apart from making me feel better mentally, it didn't do shit for my knees. Glucosamine sulphate has though, it's super good. Well recommend it, and it's cheap too. Can actually get glucosamine sulphate + cod liver oil tablets in one which must make you feel pretty loosey-goosey joints-wise.

trials_pimp
Common Injuries:Tearing Shins to hellRipping Calus's off fingers/handsbruised ThighsI can understand about your back.I went through Physio therappy, and had to attend Spinal Stability clasess. All the muscles in my back locked around my spine, causing lots of pain when riding, and other general activities. It also caused me to loose alot of the power from my legs. They more I would ride in a day, the weaker my legs got until I couldnt even stand up.My back is better now, but my legs still havent fully recovered. I struggle like hell to hit gaps/ups that I could walk over a few years back. My back has mostly healed due to me riding alot less. Once a Month, if im lucky.Trials will allways cause alot fo muscular trouble, it can cause your muscles to shrink due the the way they are used in the sport (short sharp bursts)Best way to avoid it, simple, regular, differnt exercise. Ride to work/school. Run, keep yourself loose. Or you may end up like I did, and you dont want that
Odinpalen
Wow sounds like trials has a steep price to pay physically.I may just have to take a few weeks off and things may get better...Thanks for the reply. It eases my worries.
Mark W
I doubt you'll find many riders around who didn't pull some muscles in their backs whilst starting to ride though - it's just a case of over-using muscles. It'll ache a bit, then after a while it'll heal up OK and you'll be fine* *Usually...
A!!
I think aching or sore muscle is a common problem when you first start trials, as correct me if i'm wrong but it think it is a different type of muscle tissue to ones that you use/develop everyday. I seem to remember reading somewhere it was type 2a and 2b muscle fibre that is used in trials for the fast twitch movements. So when you first start it takes some time to develop the muscles properly, and you get a lot of aching after you have been out riding for a while. lawrence osborn
Yeah hurting your back is common quite a few people that i know have stopped at the age of around 25 as they have to many back probems, i supose doing drops does your back in the most. Also another common one is hitting your knees on the stem and you can't walk and get a massive bruise even if you hit it really soft it hurts. Finnaly hitting your shins bloody hurts too and it rips them to peices, and what annoys me is if you wear shin pads the pedals don't go near your shins, the other week i decided not to wear shin pads an i bailed over my bars off a rail and the screw that fixes the brake lever ripped my leg open all the way down to the white gewy stuff . Si-man
I used to get a really sore back when I swapped from stock to mod.f**k that used to hurt, used to get that bad I couldnt ride.Gets better after abit after your muscles get used to the different positioning etc
Odinpalen
Yeah the more I think of it, my problems occured after riding with people who were more advanced. We did a full night of riding and literally had gone to new heights. It was the next day or day after I was gibbled.Does anybody know of any proper stretches or warmups for training?
A!!
If think if you follow this then you can't really go wrong. Just normal stretches should be ok. stretches Obviously theres no need to do every single one unless you feel the need. Stretching off is always good to do as well, to avoid stiffness or aching in the morning
trialsalot
i done my lower back in a while back an for some reason my knackers hurt aswell i know the big worry for trials riders are knees.think of all the time your knee goes from a prone position to an extended straight position.you end up doing that loads in a ride and its done in a blink of an eye.its no good.in a prone position(back of you thigh touching back of your calf) theres an obscene amount of pressure on it an it really buggers your ligaments and cartelidge up.nothing an osthroscopy cant fix an a bit of physio physio's are evil though, lolcraig
MikeHayes
Ive recently started getting pain in my wrists but the pain seems to go away when i ride
Deonn h
I`ve just recentley gone over on my ankle which was abit of a bummer. It`s rather weak now seems to give way sometimes.Dosent hurt when im on bike it`s just when i step off my bike (bail) it sort of twists abit if i land dodgey.Gonna start doin some exorsize`s to strengthen up the muscles around the ankle , (ligerments) so it`s less likely to "give way"... deonn
T.McMillan
when i first started trials i found that the lower back started to hurt and my hips, all this is due to exercising these muscles that you have never really exercised much before, i had this when i started skateboarding a few years ago and my inner leg muscles really hurt, its just the slight strain of muscles that havent been used so intensely at any one time, it will go away after a while month or so
Lee Cable
Broken my shin..been out of riding 4 months now, if you pull a muscles..dont stretch it, you tear it more, relax and lots of water!
ghosts_cloak
I suffer with a sore back I have been off the bike for about three weeks and its still sore . I have had a sore back nearly constantly since I started trials just under a year ago. Im going to make a doctors apointment today. I just hope I dont have to give up trials, but I will if I have to for a decent back! Gareth
eskimo
I used to have problems with my knees but since i've been wearing knee pads they've been sweet! Manuals also cause knee problems

Odinpalen
Wow, great feedback guys.I am feeling a little better now that I have not rode for a few days. I think I will need at least two weeks off before I can feel at least normal. I also start some physio next week. I play alot of sports and I can honestly say Trials riders are athletes. I wonder if people understand how much training and pain is involved? Oh yeah don't forget about the expense of your ride.
