The enchanted broomstick
Howdy to all. My bottom bracket keeps creaking and i dont know what the hell to do about it. Firstly i had a truvativ isis BB in there and it kept creaking but after tightening it up it would go away for about a week then come back again. So i threw that BB out and bought a Try-All one and this one is doing exactly the same thing, i tighten it up then a week later its creaking again!!! RARGH!Its not coming loose at all because its now gotten to the point where it wont tighten up anymore but its still creaking, what do i do?! Tarquin
Are your crank tapers knackered (rounded off) at all? As that can attribute to creaking.Only other thing I can think of is your pedals, if the bearings are gone or they are loose or something. As they can creak too. Krisboats
Have you tried taking the bb out, cleaning all the threads off completely in the bb shell and on the actual bb cups then whacking a load of grease on and re-fitting it? Also really grease the crank arm/bb axle joining area.

Mark W
Which would kinda suggest you didn't get enough grease in there. Put grease on the threads, between the left-cup and the BB body, then on the splines.
The enchanted broomstick
So now what do i do with the drive side and lock ring both rounded off ?
Mark W
Probably remember to bolt the tool down properly next time Maybe try bolting the tool down onto it and seeing if there's anything left inside the extractor bit that'll allow you to get a purchase on it?You were loosening it the right way too? Opposite thread for the right-side cup 'n' all...

Opposite thread for the right-side cup 'n' all...Mine doesnt allow that option - i have to put a ratchet in the end of mine and turn it, so i normally stand on it and pull against the frame whilst tapping it gently with a hammer. And yeah i definately know which way its meant to be turned. Mark W
How far does that actually go into the cup's teeth? If you're using a 128mm spindle doesn't look like it'd go in too far?

If you're using a 128mm spindle doesn't look like it'd go in too far?if its that exact tool it wont, you need an isis bb tool, crc do one real cheap by raceface, its a good tool too, way better than the park/shimano ones i had before and its far cheaper
The enchanted broomstick
the tool is exactly the same as that picture except where the one in the picture has the sides capable of taking an open ended spanner mine is completely round. So i had an idea!!! Took into into the shed and ground the shit out of it and gave it two flat sides so i just put my old rear wheel skewer through the BB and locked the tool into place and VOILA! removed BB - doesnt look like theres any grease left in there at all and i've got some oily brown water type stuff all over it, niiiiice.Any suggestions other than a clean up and regrease all over ?
