Greetings
I think you can pretty much get used to anything. I used 22:18 previously and it was great, now I'm using 18:18 and it's even better. I'd say 18:17 would be perfect.
Willy-Man
Generally the most common gear ratio is 22:18, but sometimes can be a little bit to hard depending on your riding style, some people use 22:19 although if you are in to saveing weight you can have practcally the same ratio as 22:18 in 18:15 which is very slightly easyer, this is becomeing alot more common nower days and seems to becomeing the stander on most good trials bikes. finally i think its 16:12 which is used by people who run a midleburn super pro trials guard, again saveing weight and being able to have a easy enough gear to ride trials. Will

spode@thinkbikes
Stock Advice, not Mod.I run 20/18. Team mate Dave runs 22/21. I know a couple of riders running 16/16 and they can get up/gap bigger stuff than me.I'm not convinced that when it comes to stationary tricks the gear ratio makes any difference. It makes a difference for run ups and rolling tricks. I find with my slightly stiffer gear, I can ride up to something and kick straight on to it without having to use a tap. In certain scenarios that's useful.I tried 22/19 once and hated it. It just made everything hard work. For me, when I have to ride demos for two solid days, the looser a gear I can get away with the better as it uses less energy. I'm considering moving to 20/20 because of this. How's this for crazy - at one point Dave was running (without realising) 20/21, i.e UNDER a 1:1 ratio and he we was still doing static 8 foot gaps. T-Limburn
i think its 16:12 which is used by people who run a midleburn super pro trials guardWill16:14 mate thats the most commonly used ratio when 16 is up front.the smallest cog you can get on a standard sized stock hub driveshell is 13 anyway.
