David
Hey, a while ago I tapped one of my magura mounts to an M6x1.0 thread.I managed to strip it the other week which was annoying. Im going to buy an M6 helicoil kit but the inserts that come with it are 1.0d long. This is 12mm and ive just measured my mounts and there only 10mm deep. Im looking for some other inserts that are slightly shorter, anyone know where? Thanks,Dave
Dan6061
Can you not drill your mounts 2mm more?
loffa
Yes, they can. Just screw them in as normally and then cut off the part of the helicoil that sticks out of the frame. Though you could always drill the holes 2mm deeper, because the longer the thread is, the better.
Si-man
Dont drill into the frame though, remember that if you drill 2mm with a 6mm bit, your actually going to drill down 5mm...

What?It wont matter if you go into the frame its a hole, no different to the little holes near the yoke ect on your chainstays
Fish-Finger-er
What?It wont matter if you go into the frame its a hole, no different to the little holes near the yoke ect on your chainstays he means a 6mm drill bit drilling down 2mm, will make a 5mm deep holes, because the end of the drill is tapered, so to get a hole 6mm wide, the tapered bit of the drill will have to sink down further, making a deeper, but smaller holeand drilling holes will structually weaken a component, just check out polos, how much of a design flaw was that. any holes that exist have most likely had some thought put into them by people who know wat there doing. , not some idiot with a makita stabbing into the frame.just cut off the top of the helicoil
