Dan6061
All very well and good, but Trials hubs also have to have strong internals to take all the stress that we put them through.Harsh buggers aren't we? If these hubs have super-strong internals (springs, pawls etc) then

Greetings
This must work like the Silent Clutch. I've yet to understand what that system is all about, it apparently uses rollers instead of pawls... All I know is that they're dead quiet and don't have engagement points, plus they only slip once - when the hub breaks. This could explain the beefy shape of the hub body. Mark W
It basically involves using a bearing and shaped driveshell/hub faces that take the place of pawls and a ratchet. That's right people, the same bearings that brought you "Crushed when in use in a headset" and "Died in my bottom bracket" are now bringing you "Face-plants: When gaps go bad". trials_pimp
those hubs are no good for trialsAndy P had one for a while. He killed it, very quicklyAnd we all know hes the heaviest, harshed rider about
paolo
My LBS will be getting some of them soon, so I asked them about it. Here's what they awsered me back. "I talked to Stealth a couple of weeks ago and asked the same questions. With the original design there were some problems with SOME failures of the drive mechanism (some with trials riders and some with long hill XC climber types). There new hub supposedly has a 20% increase in torque handling capabilities....though I want to actually open one up and see whats going on inside (they use a roller clutch bearing)" I guess this isn't the best setup for riders who might be on the heavy side and pedal kick like there was no tomorrow, but hey freewheels break also. Thought I wounder if you can get replacement parts for them, if they do happen to break...
Andy P
As I'm probably one of, if not, the only one to have owned one of these on the forum I feel a duty to reply to this one....The hub I had was the Stealth Poacher, the single speed MTB hub with QR spindle. From the moment I opend the box I was VERY impressed, I can not explain how weird it is for a hub to have ZERO "backlash" in the engagement. Testing the engagement system with just my hands there was absolutley no movement in it what-so-ever.After I laced it up to a wheel and took it for a ride (about 1 hour after it was opened from the box!) I was even more so impressed. I've owned hopes and kings and have been impressed - this felt like something else. As soon as you put the power down, its already engaged. This, along with the silent action, made riding a lot smoother, as there was no "bang" to the chain. This made small and precise movements easier and more accurate. With the regards to the "spongy" feel - you're wrong (imo ) It was just as "solid" feeling as any other hub (the hub I had owned previously was a King and had currently been using a mono - no difference in "solidness" felt.)Like Lee has already explaied though, it broke after just over a month of static gapping for britain lol. This was almost 2 years ago now, and when I sent it back Todd explained that they would re-design it to handle higher torque and make it more suitable for trials.......did he get back to me??? Actually, yes, about 3 days ago - He's sending me a brand new hub for me to test for them Anyway. Up until the old hub broke, it was increadable. I'm just hoping the reliablilty issue of the old hub has been resolved with this new one.Andy P
