Bluegrass
I've recently been interesting in it after my cousin and dad amazed me with some money saving facts.Done some research into it - using mixture of veg oil (or plain rapeseed oil) with diesel. Some people say to just start slow with maybe 10% veg oil in your tank, then slowly increase to see the money saving difference. 50/50 is where the real saving is apparently. But im assured it won't mess my diesel engine up, its only renewable veg oil fuel at the end of the day isn't it. A bit hessitant, but i wanna do it!Anyone tried it here?!
Smo™
Or just run your car on chip fat. I know people who do that.(I think I'd better specify that you should only do this to a diesel car. You never know how dumb some people can be.) poopipe
not personally but..I do know a bloke who brews his own diesel in his shed - he uses fat from a kebab van which basically costs him feckall. He's been runnning an ancient 205 on it for years now so it's safe enough to use itYou do have to pay some tax on what you make cos the government won't have you just making your own diesel for free but I think he said it ends up costing him about 30p a gallon
Brian Bleech
A mate brother went to france (to do the mega avalance DH race) and ran his diesel on veg oil, just bought from supermarket, worked fine. But shops in the UK are only allowed to sell you something like 3 litres at a time.
Mark W
There was a big fuss about this on the news not so long ago, wasn't there? 'cos they were selling a kit for £12 that let you convert your engine to run on waste oil like stuff from chip shops and so on, and after people started taking up the idea the government taxed the shit out of it all, didn't they?SAme with lpg though I guess, that was about 15p at least cheaper round here before it started getting popular and the price of it rose (I know all fuel prices have risen, but it seems it's risen disproportionately). The politicians just seem to welcome the future oil shortage with open arms...
Fish-Finger-er
yea, u can run a car pretty much 50/50 on veg oil, an itll run near enough fine, have to register with customs and excise that your using it as a fuel though, an it gets taxed, but im sure theyd have no way of knowing the difference between you using 15l of cooking oil a month and 25, so youd only be paying 60% of the tax anyway.,but as i read on the internet, at 10% u wont even smell it on the car.it will run totally normal etc. an wud save money. so....why arent the government sticking 10% rapeseed oil in at the pumps, it would probably cost them 20 p a litre due to bulk buying, and no packaging etc. could bring down the price of diesel by 5% or so, an the government would still be taking a profit on the cooking oil price.not only that, but would be cutting the use of fossil fuels hugely. reducing emissions, and would be pretty much fulfilling the kyoto agreement. really would be that simple, whack 10% rapeseed oil into the pumps, charge the extortionate tax rate on it, an cut the fuel price 5%.greenpeace would be happy, the drivers would be happy, british farmers would be happy, world environmentalists would be happy, government wouldnt be seeing a loss.but cant see it happening due to the fact that:greenpeace dont run the countrydrivers dont run the countryfarmers dont run the countryenvironmentalists dont run the countrygovernment dont run the country. but oil companies do run the world.
